Sci-Fi Movies Coming Our Way In 2017

With the recent release of the trailer for Alien: Covenant I thought I would make a short list of new sci-fi movies coming in 2017

1: ALIEN: COVENANT

OK, I have watched the trailer about 50 times already, and it’s probably my most anticipated sci-fi movie in decades.

A lot of people seem to be getting confused with where Covenant is going to stand in regards to fucking up the storyline for both Alien and Prometheus.

As we all know, Prometheus stands as a prequel to the 1979 original. The idea of Prometheus (and it did a good job) was to explain where all of these Aliens came from. Why did the Engineers (big white guys from Prometheus) design them?  – and why would someone make such a dangerous but beautiful creation?.

Let’s face it, the Aliens that we all know and love (Xenomorph, Facehuggers) where created for one reason. That reason is to kill and spread it’s seed in a living host – no other reason.

The highly skilled “Engineers” who created these Alien ‘weapons’ gave them very specific roles.

If at war, the engineers would simply have to fly overhead and drop these Alien weapons on the ground and let them do the rest of the work.

These Engineers have created the ultimate weapon in space-age war.

Alien: Covenant is apparently going to answer all
of these questions.

Official Plot (IMDb)

Bound for a remote planet on the far side of the galaxy, the crew of the colony ship Covenant discover what they think is an uncharted paradise, but is actually a dark, dangerous world, whose sole inhabitant is the synthetic David, survivor of the doomed Prometheus expedition.

Alien: Covenant stars Michael Fassbender, Katherine Waterston, James Franco, Danny McBride,  Billy Crudup, Noomi Rapace, and Guy Pearce

2: LIFE

Life is the new sci-fi movie from Swedish filmmaker, Daniel Espinosa (Safe House).

Due for release in May 2017  the film has an impressive star studded cast which include Jake Gyllenhaal, Rebecca Ferguson and Ryan Reynolds. Other cast in Life include Olga Dihovichnaya, Ariyon Bakare, and Hiroyuki Sanada.

The film tells the story a of space expedition that sets out to prove that there is life beyond our planet. When the crew stumble on a new form of bacteria that they are unable to explain things start to get very strange. The team quickly realise that this is what they have been searching for. It may not be what they expected but this was the proof of extraterrestrial existence . The bacteria is now evolving into something that none of the crew could ever be prepared for.

4: THE GOD PARTICLE (WILL BE PART OF THE CLOVERFIELD ANTHOLOGY)

So, a lot of viewers were surprised to find that the sci-fi sleeper hit, 10 Cloverfield Lane was actually a sequel to the 2008 hand-held shaky-cam monster movie, Cloverfield.

The third and supposed final part of the franchise will take us to space and will deal with astronauts on a space station who get some new unwanted guests. Again, The God Particle looks to have little or no connection with the previous two movies. Although it is far too early to tell as very little has been released.

Again, not a lot to go on but definitely enough to sell me. I do love this world, even though it seems very disconnected atm. I am looking forward to seeing how they (if at all) they bring it all together to make sense……or will they?

OFFICIAL PLOT (WIKI)

A team of astronauts aboard a space station find themselves alone after a scientific experiment causes Earth to disappear. When a space shuttle appears, the space station crew must fight for survival following their horrible discovery.

5: THE DARK TOWER

Stephen King must have a great time lately counting all of the cash that he has been making from people adapting or re-adapting his books into movies.

There is currently (2 that I am aware of) coming out of post-production: Those two are The Dark Tower and IT.

The Dark Tower stars Idris Elba and Matthew McConaghuey (who turned down a role in Guardians Of The Galaxy 2 for this movie).

Set in a dystopian, wild-west like future. The film follows a gunslinger called Roland Deschain (Idris Elba) who travels the wide wasteland in search The Dark Tower (which is inhabited by McConaghuey). The Dark Tower is where the answers lay about the dying world.g.

Another amazing thing about this adaptation is the director. The Dark Tower is directed by Nikolaj Arcel; Arcel is the man who is responsible for one of the greatest crime trilogies ever put on film. The films were The Keeper of Lost Causes 2013 (Kvinden i buret), The Absent One 2014 (Fasandræberne) and A Conspiracy Of Faith 2016 (Flaskepost fra P).

OFFICIAL PLOT

Gunslinger Roland Deschain roams an Old West-like landscape in search of the dark tower, in the hopes that reaching it will preserve his dying world.
