Ridley Scott Eyeing Remake Rights For THE WAILING

Wailing

One of the best films to come out of 2016 was Na Jong Hin’s, The Wailing

Now, it has been revealed that Ridley Scott’s production company is eyeing the rights for an American remake.

the-wailingFirstly, although I have total faith in Mr Scott, I just can’t see this working well as a remake. Why?, because the main fuel for the story line is one that is steeped in Korean culture and something I don’t think can work anywhere else other than S.Korea.

It does look like they’re being careful, though. In a recent interview with Screen Daily, One of The Wailing’s producer’s expressed their doubts about a possible remake

“The Wailing’ is so strong that I don’t think it would be easy to do a Western remake, and it will be important who directs it. So I told him I think the only director who could do the remake is Na Hong Jin. But we are still in early stages of talks.”

The thoughts of Na Hong-jin directing an American version of The Wailing is intriguing AF but I still can’t see it work in any other country other than S.K.

What I would love to see is Na Hong Jin tackle a classic American serial-killer drama and shoot it his way, in South Korea. I mean, what if we learnt that there was a South Koren remake of Se7en from the director of The Chaser and The WailingI think that would work on so many levels.

The Wailing Official Plot

A stranger arrives in a little village and soon after a mysterious sickness starts spreading. A policeman is drawn into the incident and is forced to solve the mystery in order to save his daughter.
