I had high hopes when the director of Monsters was signed on to bring us a new vision of Godzilla. Clever marketing had me watering at the mouth up until it’s release but when the time finally arrived, I couldn’t help but feel let down by Gareth Edwards Hollywood adaptation.
I mean, it was far from a bad movie but I felt it followed the same predictable path as what we’d expect from a Hollywood blockbuster – full of the best digital FX in the business but lacking the in depth with the script writing
Now Godzilla has made its way back to the homeland in the first teaser trailer for Hideaki Anno & Shinji Higuchi’s Godzilla: Resurgence. The first Godzilla feature from Toho studios since 2004’s Godzilla: Final Wars and will mark the 29th studio movie based on one of the most iconic movie monsters of all time.
The trailer doesn’t offer us much but it was still enough for my jaw to drop open and hit the floor. The trailer very much has a Cloverfield feel to it. It shows everyone freaking out and running from something that we can’t see…. and we all know what they’re are running from.
We all know where Godzilla belongs, and Japan is now on the verge of showing us and the rest of the world just how to make a proper Godzilla movie. I look forward to seeing a full trailer and one can’t be that far behind.
Enjoy the trailer
