Upcoming Horror/Sci-Fi Releases To Watch Out For

We are back again with a brand new list for you. This time focusing on Upcoming Horror & Sci-Fi Movies releasing soon.

2021 is looking to be fantastic year for genre releases. Yesterday I published 4 new werewolf flicks that have recently been released or are releasing soon. Now, I can continue with a new list of upcoming horror releases. I hope you enjoy it and find some films that you can look forward to in the near future.

Upcoming Horror Releases To Watch Out For – In The Earth

Ben Wheatley (Kill List, Free Fire, Sightseers) is back with a micro-budget horror movie shot during the pandemic.

Not a lot is known about the plot but focuses on a woman getting lost in a forest with the woods coming to life around her.

Wheatley has been attached to direct the sequel to The Meg, the follow-up to the Jason Statham and Rainn Wilson killer shark flick!. I am so looking forward to seeing what he can do with a Meg sequel. I am sure Mr Wheatley can do a great job. But what he can do, and what he is allowed to do is two very different things.

Upcoming Releases To Watch Out For – The Spine of the Night

Who is up for some ultra-violent animation inspired by the work of Conan the Barbarian creators? The Spine of the Night gives us just that. A dark fantasy epic full of insane violence featuring necromancers and winged assassins!

Upcoming Releases To Watch Out For – The Sound Of Violence

A deaf woman who regains her hearing in the most unfortunate way ever: during the brutal murder of her family. She becomes obsessed with creating new sounds with vicious violence and human flesh after learning that she might be losing her hearing again.

What? This sounds unique and macabre af. I wonder what human flesh sounds like? I can’t wait to find out.

Upcoming Releases To Watch Out For -The Arbos

The Arbors has been described as a Lovecraftian sci-fi thriller. I have read some reviews and to be honest, they ain’t been that positive. I am still intrigued though, I am a fan of slow-burn sci-fi but maybe this was just a little slow for some.

There was a flick called Possum that was released a couple of years ago. It took an awful thrashing, but personally, I loved it – it was atmospheric, unnerving and creepy AF!. So yeah, bring on The Arbors

Set in a small town, a recluse locksmith finds a small creature in his house that slowly starts to grow revealing it’s terrifying true form.

Upcoming Releases To Watch Out For – Macabro

Another film listed as released in 2019 but it is slowly making its way to us. Macabro sounds like my sort of flick. It is inspired by the real-life murders of the necrophilic brothers of Nova Friburgo. Two brothers were accused of a string of brutal murders in the late 90s’in Brazil.

It is backed and produced by the producers of the fantastic Wagner Moura starring Elite Squad

Upcoming Horror Releases To Watch Out For – Gaia

Directed by Jaco Bouwer and stars Monique Rockman, Carel Nel, Alex van Dyk and Anthony Oseyemi.

A park ranger encounters a father and son living a post-apocalyptic lifestyle in the woods. They have detached from society, have their own rules and their own religion. After their cabin gets attacked by strange human-like beings, she realises that there is a dangerous truth to the father and son’s apocalyptic existence.

Upcoming Horror Releases 2021
Upcoming Horror Releases to watch out for – Censor

From what I am reading, Prano Bailey-Bond’s directorial debut, Censor is going to be one of the greats. I have read nothing but great things about it. A British horror described as both intelligent and disturbing.

The story is about a mysterious video cassette (yay!) that communicates directly with a woman about her sister’s unexplained disappearance.

Another one that features some sort of evil VHS tapes. A video archivist comes across a series of dark and doomy pirate recordings and becomes obsessed when trying to find out the horrid truth behind them.

Directed by Jacob Gentry
Written by Phil DrinkwaterTim Woodall
Starring Anthony E. CabralRichard CotovskyJeff Dlugolecki |

The last one on the list is a documentary that explores the history of cinematic folk horror. Hey, maybe not for everyone but I love the genre and the real-life tales of madness that comes with folk horror.

This documentary has a staggering runtime of 193mins. That’s 3-hours of pure cinematic folk horror knowledge. Sign me up!

That’s it for this list. Make sure to check back soon to get hooked up with more movie and tv recommends. As always, thanks for reading.

Borat 2 Review: Just As Fucked Up As The First – Only Twice The Fun

When the news broke that Sacha Baron Cohen had secretly shot a new Borat movie it was like a dream come true

After checking out the official trailer, yeah, I laughed but to be honest, I was far from convinced. Within 5 minutes of the opening credits I knew I was wrong and Baron Cohen has once again fooled the fine folk of the U.S & A.

After the first Borat movie, Kazakhstan’s humble hero has been sentenced to a life of hard labour. Why?…for making a mockery of the fine people of his country. All is forgiven when he is called upon by his government to deliver a monkey to the Vice Premier of the U.S & A. When Borat arrives, his 15-year-old daughter has smuggled herself in the same cage as Johnny the Monkey.

I was uncertain about the daughter story and thought the trailer seemed somewhat forced. But, man, I was so glad I was wrong. Maria Bakalova plays Tutar Sagdiyev and she is every bit as good and funny as Borat. In true Borat nature, the stuff she gets up to is just as cringe and disgusting as her loving father.

Basically, after they are unable to deliver the monkey, and to avoid an excruciating death back home, Borat is given permission to offer his 15-year-old daughter as a gift. I am not gonna go into this, but even with that description, you should be able to tell how wrong everything you will witness is going to be.

For those who are wondering how Borat is able to walk around without people noticing who he is?.

Well, I am sure that you’re aware that Baron Cohen is a true master of disguise. He spends a lot of time as Borat but he changes into different personalities throughout the film.

So, what are you waiting for?

The new Borat movie is now available to stream on Amazon Prime. Enjoy the awkward laughs. Happy Friday everyone.

As always, thanks for reading.

The Root Of All Evil: Jeffrey Epstein: Filthy Rich now on Netflix

Jeffrey Epstein: Filthy Rich is a powerful new documentary that just hit Netflix. Not only does it focus on Epstein but it also shines a light on his co-conspirators

We all know the name Jeffrey Epstein by now. But it wasn’t until all of these allegations came about of him being a sex offender, sex trafficker that I had any clue who this guy was. And after watching this new Netflix Original documentary we realise that money truly is the root of all evil.

In Jeffrey Epstein: Filthy Rich we learn of the height of his evilness. Epstein is right up there with being one of sickest people to have ever walked the Earth. And why was he able to get away witch such vile and unspeakable acts throughout the years? well, we all know the answer to that: money talks, or in his case, money makes people shut the fuck up!

But it is not just Epstein that is worrying in this documentary, it is his close circle of “elite”. His rich and powerful friends that have all spent time in his private residences. Could Epstein be doing what he does for so many years and not have these people notice that something is definitely off with him? I highly doubt that. I mean, has none of these people went to the police throughout the years with any sort of complaint? So, we know what Epstein did, right? what about all of these “elite” assholes that turned a blind eye, prolonging the pain and suffering of the victims or even worse, taking part in these horrific. heinous acts.

For that reason, I think this is a documentary that should be watched and never EVER forgotten about. I hope we find a continuation bringing more of these vulgar elites to justice!

As always, thank for reading.

DRINK THE GIRLS, SUCK THE BOYS: Info on new Derry-based gay vampire mockumentary SANGE

Sange is a new gay vampire mockumentary in the style of What We Do In The Shadows and Man Bites Dog.

Sange stars Emmet Friel as the narcissistic serial killer gay vampire. It is written by Gary Gamble (me) and the camera is operated by the wonderfully wonderful Manus McManus (not his real name…but it is now). It is pretty much directed by all three of us.

The project started a few days after we all started film school. We were tasked with coming up with an idea to shoot to show that we knew how to turn on and operate a camera.

I met Emmett who is an experienced actor. Over lunch, Emmet started to tell me a little bit about himself and told me he isn’t long back from a 6-year stint in Romania.

Anyways, the very next day I woke up with this idea in my head: A gay vampire that has just returned from Romania after finding out the Count Dracula he was in love with was just Gary Oldman in makeup. Then on my way to film school, I came up with the tagline “Drink The Girls, Suck The Boys” (I am super proud of that tagline). It started to write itself.

It was overly ambitious for what was needed to be done at school. We kept brainstorming and we both had ourselves in stitches, laughing at the crazy ideas we were coming up with. I remember thinking “if we are both laughing hysterically at these ideas…maybe others would too?”

Sange is a gay vampire with a rare fang dysfunction called Fangdenfail. After realising that the Count Dracula he was in love with was just Gary Oldman in makeup, he has moved from Romania back to his hometown of Derry. Now, Sange must try to adapt and mingle with the mortals.

Now, a new experimental drug called Fangdenhard made by a vampire chemist in Limavady has hit the streets. Fangdenhard acts sort of like a vampire viagra. Vampires are advised to only take one and “whatever you do, don’t double-drop!”

Sange has no choice but to drink bottled blood which is made especially for him in once a month in Muff…the vampire capital of Ireland. But when blood supply is short, Sange must go to extreme gruesome lengths to feed and satisfy his cravings.

FANGDENHARD: I designed these and a mate 3D printed them! They look amazing, right?

We have some scenes left to shoot in Muff which is going to be a lot of fun..for obvious reasons. I live beside Muff…so, of course, I wrote that Muff is the vampire capital of Ireland. No, actually…that wrote itself.

Then we have to bring in our brand new character, Josh Feratau. Josh Feratau is a vampire from Dublin that is obsessed with Vamploitation. He isn’t happy until has half-naked girls in roller-skates carrying uzis beside him.

Then after that folks, that is the first episode complete. We still have so much more content and ideas that we can’t wait to put out there and share with you all.

Sange poster designed by Nathan McCrossan
We released the first official trailer so you can get a taste of what’s to come. If you enjoy the trailer then please help me spread the word of Sange by sharing it with like-minded people!

As always, thanks for reading.

A List Of Netflix Originals Hitting Our Screens January 2019

We are closing in on the end of 2018, and you know something? –  it’s been a pretty good year for cinema. Here’s a look at what Netflix originals are coming our way in January 2019. These are the ones I am looking forward to the most. I hope they interest you as well.

I know there are many more Netflix releases in January, this list is my top picks. We are really off to great start for a superb year of new releases.

3 New South Korean Movies THE REVENGER

This is great news indeed! New South Korean actioner The Revenger will be hitting our screens on January 15th.

The Revenger featured in a recent Moviehooker movie list. The film follows an undercover agent who is sent to an island populated by death row inmates. His job is to infiltrate the gang and take down the island’s gang-leader.

Reviews have started to surface and they have been solid. This could be South Korea’s entry into the world of extreme martial arts. A subgenre that Indonesia seems to hold the reigns at the minute.

Nerflix Zombie Series KINGDOM

Another South Korean production and another film that has been in our sights since early pre-production. An infection spreads rapidly through South Korea turning infected into zombie-like creatures.

A chosen warrior embarks on a mission to save his Kingdom and put an end to the plague. This is a new Netflix series and will consist of 10-episodes.

I have really high hopes for this…and it would seem that Netflix do also. They have already greenlit a second season of Kingdom even before season one has aired.

New Netflix Originals 2019 POLAR

John Wick, who?! Polar is a new assassin v assassin movie that puts the great Mads Mikkelsen in leading role. He plays an elite assassin that comes out of retirement to take down a new group of younger assassins that will stop at nothing until he is dead.

Mads can do no wrong in my eyes. I have mainly loved his Danish filmography (The Hunt, Adam’s Apples) but he was a pretty impressive Hannibal Lecter as well. I had no idea he was starring in Polar so this has me a little excited now!. It’s a premise I can certainly get behind!.

Polar is based on a graphic novel from Dark Horse Comics titled Polar: He Came From The Cold.

New Netflix Originals 2019 Ted Bundy Tapes

There has been a lot of hype recently surrounding the upcoming Ted Bundy thriller Extremely Wicked, Shockingly Evil & Vile. Zac Efron has surprised us all by playing one of America’s most prolific serial killers.

This Netflix original is a cinematic look at the crimes of Ted Bundy told through a series of confession tapes.

I am not sure if this is an actual feature-film or a documentary. Either way, both would be an interesting watch.

Animas is a new Spanish Netflix production. The film is based on the book Animas by José Ortuño. With a name like Animas, I automatically thought we had ourselves a brand new werewolf movie. But the trailer doesn’t give off that buzz at all, it seems to be more of a supernatural horror movie.

It hits Netflix this coming January so we won’t have long until we find out.

Solo Netflix Original 2019

This may not be suited to everyone but I am a fan of these sort of films. Solo follows a surfer who falls an insane height and injures himself. Against all of the odds, he must try and survive against one of the biggest bitches in cinematic history…Mother Nature.

I am guessing (and hoping) that this movie is a one-man-show with very little dialect. Hey, it’s called ‘Solo’, so I guess the proof is right there in the title.

Make sure to check back to Moviehooker soon for more upcoming Netflix releases another genre related goodness. As always, thanks for reading.

Review For New Chilling Documentary THE NEW RADICAL

The New Radical is a seriously chilling documentary.

Perhaps it is because to most of us; it is dealing with the unknown. Dark-web, Bitcoins, 3D Printers and gun ownership (Outside of US) to most of us is a pretty foreign concept.

The New Radical focuses on Cody Wilson, a “crypto-anarchist” who believes strongly in the first and second amendments. He embraces chaos and wants the realisation of true liberty. His path to this is to make guns, available for all, as is their constitutional right.

He sets about by creating a blueprint for a functional handgun, which can be downloaded, put into a 3D printer and a gun can be assembled on the other side. No ID checks, no background checks, no age limit, no quantity restriction – absolutely nothing. Just the technical know-how of how to do it.

As the story progresses, he links up with Amir Taaki, one of the key leaders of Bitcoin, creator of Dark Wallet, something that exists for the purpose of transferring cryptocurrency rather than using the major banks. Again, it has a highly ambiguous purpose, given that this could be used for encrypted transactions for anything from a car to drugs, a gun or a person. It’s virtually untraceable, but is it necessary?

The documentary is shot in an extremely intimate way, with an unnerving score by Clint Mansell, interviews with the likes of Julian Assange and spliced with rolling news reports of domestic and foreign terrorist atrocities combined with mass shootings in the US. It’s uncomfortable, often hard to watch, but it seems to get progressively darker as we start to see in the introduction of ISIS and election of Donald Trump. While Amir and Cody put across their arguments, this appears to be the counter-argument, and the visuals speak volumes.

The New Radical Poster

I left this documentary feeling conflicted.

I do not see the need for gun ownership; I don’t understand why the US need more of them in their society, it baffles me that despite all the horrendous shootings that people are still in favour of more guns and less gun control. But that comes from an outsider’s perspective where I have not grown up with this as part of my culture.

I do not see Cody and Amir as the enemy here. You can’t agree with all the points they make, but the question that everyone seems to be avoiding is not how to stop the introduction of new technologies, but rather, how do we stop bad people doing bad things with them? If we start censoring and halting innovations such as these, we only stand to go backwards – even if chaos is just around the corner.

THE NEW RADICAL  is in New York and Los Angeles this Friday, December 1st.  VOD nationwide in the U.S. on December 5th.

Bombshell: The Hedy Lamarr Story

Hedy Lamarr is a name that we all should know, so why doesn’t the name resonate when mentioned?. At a time, she was the most glamorous name in Hollywood and the reason many actors, actresses and directors got involved in making movies.

Born in 1914 in Vienna, Austria to well-off Jewish parents, Lamarr already had a lavish lifestyle before making the move to Hollywood.

In 1933 Hedy Lamarr had a role in Gustav Machaty’s film Ecstacy. But controversy quickly spread like wildfire: In Ecstacy, Lamar appeared topless and was probably the first ever actress to act out an orgasm onscreen (she was getting pricked with a pin to achieve the right facial expressions). The dodgy AF story of Ecstacy was about a young girl who was in love with a much older man but ends up falling for a young soldier. Her nudity in that movie hit the viewers with a feeling they weren’t used to in cinema. I’d say some men choked on their fucking popcorn when boobs appeared onscreen.

After the backlash of Ecstacy, Lamarr made the move to Hollywood. Not long after she was signed by none other than Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer, known to billions as MGM Movies (roaring lion).

As well as being described as the most glamorous name in Hollywood, she was also the inspiration for Batman’s, Catwoman. She also inspired the look of the character Snow White in Disney’s widely-adored classic.

But there was much more to Hedy Lamarr than her acting skills and looks. She was also an inventor. There is no other way to put it, Hedy Lamarr was a genius.

Lamarr invented a “covert communications system” to help defeat the Nazi’s in WW2. She then sold the patent to the U.S Navy, but they had no idea of its potential. It was only years later others realised the power of her invention. Lamarr’s invention is now known to the world as secure Wi-Fi, GPS, and Bluetooth.

Family, friends and celebs Diane Kruger, Mel Brooks among others share their stories and thoughts on Lamarr’s astonishing life.

Trailer For New HBO Documentary Beware The Slenderman

The first trailer for HBO’s new documentary, The Slender Man has just dropped, and it looks terrifying

HBO have been dishing out some fantastic crime documentaries for years. In 2015 we got treated to the incredible real-life crime doc, The Jinx: The Life And Deaths Of Robert Durst. Now with The Slender Man it looks like we have another fantastic documentary to look forward to.

Beware The Slender Man documents the real-life events in which two teenage girls attempted to stab and murder their friend. They believed that they were doing this for a fictional character called The Slenderman.

The Slender ManHere is a little about how The Slender Man became such an internet sensation (from Wiki)

“The Slender Man was created on June 10, 2009, on a thread in the Something Awful Internet forum. The thread was a photoshop contest in which users were challenged to edit everyday photographs to appear paranormal. A forum poster with the username “Victor Surge” contributed two black and white images of groups of children, to which he added a tall, thin spectral figure wearing a black suit. Although previous entries had consisted solely of photographs, Surge supplemented his submission with snatches of text—supposedly from witnesses—describing the abductions of the groups of children, and giving the character the name, The Slender Man.”

Beware The Slender Man is from award winning documentary filmmaker, Irene Taylor Brodsky

Enjoy the trailer

14 Documentaries That Every Documentary Lover Should See

The Netflix documentary, Making A Murderer has taken the world by storm. Everyone seems to love it. I decided to put an article together that features some of the best documentaries that I have ever seen – I hope you enjoy the list.

DEAR ZACHARY: A Letter To A Son About His Father

I have preached about this doc for years. If I had to choose, then Dear Zachary would be the best documentary that I have ever seen. In saying that, I could only EVER watch it once. It is a superbly written piece of work but it is so heartbreaking. I don’t think any normal mortal human- being would sit down to more than one viewing.

Documentary A Death In St AugustineA Death In St Augustine

This documentary made me angry more than anything else. It was so obvious that he killed his girlfriend and set it up (poorly) to look that she took her own life. Everyone in this doc deserves to do some time behind bars, everyone is involved. It just goes to show you that if you carry a badge and a gun, and are part of the so-called Law Enforcement, it’s quite easy to get away with murder.

Documentary The JinxThe Jinx , The Life And Deaths Of Robert Durst

There was a film released some time ago that starred Ryan Gosling and Kirsten Dunst. The film was called All Good Things and was based on the real-life disappearance of the wife of a wealthy real-estate heir, Robert Durst.

This mini-series is told through interviews with Durst.

Great mini-series that is told in a cinematic way, even the opening credits would remind you of True Detective. I’m pretty sure this was the vibe that they were going for.
