Richard Linklater Onboard To Direct Bill Hicks Biopic

Bill Hicks Richard Linklater Biopic

Richard Linklater to write and direct a biopic about the life of late comedian Bill Hicks

To this day, Bill Hicks still stands effortlessly at the top of my pile of favourite comedians. That’s not hard though as I have a very short list of comedians who I would consider, “funny”. His stand-up was a force to be reckoned with.

Not only was his shows excruciatingly funny, but there was also a painful truth in every word that he spoke. Although many have tried (I am looking at you, Dennis Leary) no one could ever come near to the genius and brilliance of Bill Hicks. If he was still around today, I would love to hear his thoughts on the current shituation on America and the rest of the world.

If you’re unfamiliar with Bill Hicks then do yourself a favour, go and watch his stand-up, you really won’t regret it. Unlike other comedians, Bill Hicks‘ content has aged scarily well and a lot of his material is far more relevant today.

According to Collider, director/writer Richard Linklater (Dazed And Confused, Boyhood) has signed up to write and direct the biopic about the comedians’ life…

“Oscar-nominated filmmaker Richard Linklater has signed on to develop,
write and direct an untitled film based on the life
of controversial comedian Bill Hicks for Focus Features,
Collider has exclusively learned.”

As this news has just been announced we will have to wait patiently for further updates. I am really looking forward to seeing who’s going to be cast as Hicks. They will have a tough story to tell. As most of you know, Bill Hicks died way before his time. He passed away in Arkansaw in 1994 at the age of 32 from pancreatic cancer.

Expect to hear more as news is announced.

As always, thanks for reading.
