Joaquin Phoenix is our new Joker in Todd Phillips origin story. We now have the fantastic first trailer to share with you all.
The first reviews are in for Todd Phillips origin story, Joker, and, man, are they good!. I know, it’s hard to judge and believe what people say nowadays but when Joker is getting to compared to masterpieces like Scorsese’s Taxi Driver and Aronofsky’s Requiem For A Dream. It’s hard not to get excited.
The scenes with Arthur and his mother in their apartment is eerie and indeed, reminiscent of Requiem For A Dream. I also got that same cold feeling I got when I watched 2004’s psychological drama, The Machinist for the first time. And, yes, the laugh is there and it pierces you with uneasiness. I think Joaquin Phoenix is going to rock our worlds with his portrayal of the Joker. He looks truly unsettling and psychotic.
The trailer is great, but…for a “teaser”, it is a damn long one. It may give away a bit too much of the plot. So, for those of you that are a little indecisive about trailers, I would probably give it a miss.
I have to say, fair play to DC, this really looks a like a dark and morbid tale. Joaquin Phoenix looks like the Joker that we have all wanted and needed since (IMO, calm down) Heath Ledger’s flawless performance in Christopher Nolan’s The Dark Knight.
Mark Hamill also took to Twitter singing Joaquin Phoenix’s praises for his take of the character:
“A diabolically delicious character + a superb actor + a brilliant writer/director =
YES PLEASE!!! “
Here’s the trailer. I hope you enjoy.
More information to follow as it is announced. As always, thanks for reading.
