Some of the finest reviews that I have read this year have been for festival favourite –The Stanford Experiment. The film is based on a true story that took place back in 1971 in Stanford University Psychology Department, which was conducted by head-the-ball professor Dr. Philip Zimbardo. .

The chosen students were broken-down into two groups – one half of them prisoners, and the other half,  prison guards. Video cameras have been placed throughout a simulated jail that has been set-up, and the whole experiment is recorded, and monitored.

When the prisoners decide that they don’t wan t to abide by the strict set of rules that were specified at the beginning of The Experiment , the prison guards start to take their roles a little bit too seriously. Their abuse of power leaves the prisoners no choice but to fend for themselves…. things start to get a little bit crazy.

The Stanford Experiment is the English language adaptation that we’ve all been craving for (well me anyway). One of my favourite films is German film Das Experiment, which is based on the exact same experiment

Then the American remake, which starred Adrian Brody and Forrest Whitaker. The remake was good, I have said before , if you haven’t seen the German version, then you’d probably enjoy it a lot more. But if you see the original German movie as a personal favourite, then it’s hard not to be picky and a little bit judgemental.

The Stanford Experiment looks like it has brought back the intensity and shock-value that I thought the previous remake lost. If the reviews are anything to go by, then The Stanford Experiment is a film that we won’t be forgetting about for some time.
