Army Of The Dead is a new American zombie film directed by Zack Synder. The film will premiere on Netflix.
UPDATED ARTICLE: AT LAST WE HAVE THE TRAILER FOR ZACK SNYDER’S ARMY OF THE DEAD. ENJOY
Remember back in 2004 when Snyder released his directorial debut?. It was a remake of George A Romero’s zombie classic, Dawn Of The Dead. All of the haters (of fast zombies) soon shut their mouths, because, let’s face it, not only was Snyder’s Dawn Of The Dead an epic remake done right! it was also one of the strongest zombies films in history and remains so to this day.
Since 2004’s Dawn Of The Dead, Snyder’s career skyrocketed. Sadly, this was his only horror film. Synder pursued a more mainstream career directing movies like 300, Man Of Steel Suckerpunch and Justice League.
Army Of The Dead is set in present-day. A zombie apocalypse has ravaged the world as we know it. Just like the zombies, there is one thing that will never die…greed!
And greed will no doubt be the start of the downfall for our group of protagonists. A band of mercenaries are brought together and thrown into the chaotic feeding ground of the undead. Their purpose: To pull off the biggest heist in history.
Is Army Of The Dead a Sequel To Snyder’s 2004 Dawn Of The Dead?
Right now, I am going to say “No“. However, I do think that Army Of The Dead was initially intended to be set in the same zombie apocalypse as Dawn Of The Dead.
Not a lot of people know, but Army Of The Dead has been around and sitting on a dusty shelf (or hard-drive) since 2007. I may be wrong but being written only 3 years after DOTD, I see no reason that these two weren’t connected at some stage. If The Walking Dead has taught us anything, it’s that you can drag the ass out of characters and storylines.
Shooting began in mid-2019. I am uncertain if Army Of The Dead was able to wrap filming before the Covid-19 Pandemic locked the world down. I sure hope so though, this means Snyder and co can work from the comforts of their home to get the movie finished.
Netflix has given Snyder a budget of over $90 million which probably makes this one of the most expensive horror films around. Not only have they given Snyder a shitload of cash, but they have also given him total creative control to bring us the craziest zombie film a fan can hope for.
