The Raid star Iko Uwais has a new sci-fi action series about to hit Netflix called Wu Assassins.
I just got an email from work, all it said was “Iko Uwais Netflix sci-fi series” As you can imagine I dropped whatever I was doing and got engrossed in the trailer. How have I not heard of this until now?
It is fantastic to see Uwais speak English. Now, you all know I would much rather watch a film in its native tongue but this will open so many doors for him, he’s more than earned it. And, when the rest of Hollywood catch on to his masterful choreography, we could be seeing some ass-kicking Hollywood productions coming our way.
Wu Assassins looks to be the first. A new Netflix series with the first season consisting of 10-episodes. Season one will be directed by multiple directors with most directors directing 2-episodes each. The directors: Toa Frazer, Tony Krantz, Stephen Fung, Roel Reinè, Kathryn Winnick and Michael Nankin.
Iko plays Kai, a regular guy (actually, he’s “just a chef”) who just finds out he has been chosen to fight a group of ancient warlords. These warlords are of course hellbent on destroying the world and everyone in it. With supernatural abilities and the strength of a 1000 ancient warrior monks, Kai sets out of his mission of vengeance as the last chosen Wu Assassin.
As you can expect, the fight scenes are fast, explosive and bone crunchingly realistic. Iko Uwais’s moves are unlike anyone else’s in the business. He is truly following in the footsteps of legendary Jackie Chan with stunt work, choreography and being able to act as well. I am just glad people other than us are starting to realise that too.
