Danny Boyle Will Reunite With Alex Garland For 28 Days/Weeks Later Sequel

I will never forget the first time I got to see 28 Days Later.

I was at the cinema and picked the only 18 cert movie there was showing. I had no idea what it was about, who wrote it, directed it and starred in it. My mouth near hit the ground during the introduction and it was right there and then I knew that 28 Days Later was going to be something special.

It was an amazing spin on the zombie genre, replacing the slow-walking Romero-type undead with fast-moving rage infected humans who want to do nothing more than just tear you to shreds with their bare hands.

The sequel 28 Weeks Later starring Robert Carlyle was then released in 2007.

Directed by Juan Carlos Fresnadillo, the sequel was a continuation of the first movie with different characters. It was always clear that there was going to be another instalment in the franchise. If I remember correctly, in the last scene of 28 Weeks Later we saw the virus spread to Europe.

So, for the third instalment of the Rage Virus series, we really don’t know where it is going to go. Maybe it could bring back our surviving characters from 28 Days Later and be a continuation of their story. Or maybe, we get a continuation of 28 Weeks Later?. Who knows? it is far too early to say. One thing s for sure though it is damn exciting that this project is moving forward with Boyle and Garland involved.

In a recent interview with The Independent, Boyle had this to say about the project.

Alex Garland and I have a wonderful idea for the third part. It’s properly good. The original film led to a bit of a resurgence in the zombie drama and it doesn’t reference any of that. It doesn’t feel stale at all.”

Expect to hear more news on the 28 Days Later sequel as it is announced. As always, thanks for reading.
