Deadline has just reported that a Day Of The Dead series is on the way from SyFy
It has also been confirmed that Steven Kostanski (The Void, Psycho Goreman) will executive produce. Kostanski will also direct the first 4-episodes of the new 10-part series.
The new series will supposedly take place 24-hours after the zombie apocalypse begins
Nothing to go on regarding plot details but the original told the story of a group of survivors who take refuge in a nuclear bunker as the world is ravaged by the undead.
It will be interesting to see what they come up with. With Day of the Dead being Romero’s third zombie film, the dead have already taken over the world. It dealt with the survivors trying to humanize them, teach them not to attack the living. It even had a crazy doctor nicknamed “Dr Frankenstein” who was conducting crazy experiments. And, of course, we had, Bub, the most lovable zombie to ever hit our screens.
These were all elements I loved about Day of the Dead. If this is to take place just 24-hours after the zombie outbreak, I can’t help but think they will be missing key elements of the story. But hey, this will be a series and the story has to be adapted so maybe it will just take a while to get there.
George A Romero’s Dead Trilogy was Night of the Living Dead (1968), Dawn of the Dead (1978) & Day of the Dead (1985)
Personally, Day of the Dead was my favourite film in the trilogy. I have been wanting a remake for a very long time. Not the piece of shit we got in 2017. I wanted something on the level of Zach Snyder’s fantastic reimagining of Dawn of the Dead. Maybe SyFy will be the ones to deliver a decent retelling of Romero’s classic.
The new series is written by Jed Elinoff and Scott Thomas.
Keenan Tracey (Bates Motel), Daniel Doheny (Alex Strangelove), Natalie Malaika (Fractured), Morgan Holmstrom and Kristy Dinsmore (Vikings) will star.
More information to follow as news is announced
As always, thanks for reading.
