The First Trailer For Alex Garland’s ANNIHILATION Has Just Dropped

Alex Garland’s follow-up to the award-winning sci-fi Ex-Machina is almost here. IMO, a great trailer, it doesn’t give away too much of the plot.

Garland, who also wrote Danny Boyle’s rage-virus masterpiece, 28 Days Later made his directorial debut with Ex-Machina. He continued to scribe for Boyle by returning to write the Cillian Murphy sci-fi,  Sunshine. Both of the above-mentioned films are among the best in their genre.

28 Days Later/28 Weeks Later [Blu-ray]

Sunshine [Blu-ray] [2007]

Ex Machina [Blu-ray] [2015]

Garland has an insane talent, to deliver both the action and intelligence to Hollywood cinema. There aren’t many people out there that can do both. We either have a sci-fi full of the best FX that the digital world has to offer that lacks in development or depth; or we have the complete opposite, a low-budget sci-fi that is ambitious, full of talent, and originality but lacks the budgetary requirements.

Starring Natalie Portman, Jennifer Jason Leigh, Gina Rodriguez, Tessa Thompson, Tuva Novotny, and Oscar Isaac.

Based on a novel of the same name by Jeff VanderMeer. It is the first part of Jeff VanderMeer‘s Southern Reach Trilogy

Annihilation: The thrilling book behind the most anticipated film of 2018 (The Southern Reach Trilogy)

Authority (The Southern Reach Trilogy, Book 2)

Acceptance (The Southern Reach Trilogy, Book 3)

Garland said this about the project: “At the point, I started working on Annihilation, there was only one of the three books. I knew that it was planned as a trilogy by the author, but there was only the manuscript for the first book. I really didn’t think too much about the trilogy side of it.”
