As it’s near the end of the year I thought I would hook you all up with some great films I believe that are gonna rock our screens in 2016. I have a nice varied list with some thrillers, horrors, comedy, sci-fi, Revenge…..oh, and a jim Carrey, Keanu Reeves cannibal movie!
478 is a new revenge movie that will show big Arnie in yet another role in which he has to act! Arnie will always be known for the big blockbusters, but he broke away from that when he played Wade in 2014’s zombie drama, Maggie.
This will further prove that there is much more to big Arnie than explosions and special FX. Arnie will play a father who has just lost his wife and child in a plane accident due to a fuck-up from an air traffic controller.
The guy who was responsible for the death of his family has been put into protective custody due to the outrage of the loved ones of the deceased. Arnie’s character just can’t let this guy breathe any longer – so he decides to take on the FEDS, and anyone else that gets in the way of him ending the life of the man who killed his wife and child.
Free Fire is the first American production from English indie director, Ben Wheatley. Wheatley will reunite with regular Michael Smiley along with an awesome cast which includes Cillian Murphy, Arnie Hammer, Luke Evans, Noah Taylor, Jack Reynor, Sam Reily, Brie Larson and Sharlto Copley…that is one hell of a cast!
Free-Fire tells the story of two Irish brothers played by Smiley and Murphy (probably in the R.A) who get involved with some dodgy weapon dealings in Boston The film’s action will begin in a warehouse when a weapons deal goes horribly wrong. The film is set in the 70s and is Wheatley’s first stab at the action genre and Martin Scorsese will also serve as Executive Producer.
Writer/director Sean Ellis is the man responsible for one of my all-time fave Asian drama/thrillers – the Filipino heist movie Metro Manlia, which starred Jake Macapagal in one of the most realistic performances you could hope for from a film.
Anthropoid is a new thriller based on a true story about two soldiers who are sent to assassinate head members of the SS. The film is due for release in 2016 and stars Toby Jones, Jamie Dornan and Cillian Murphy and Harry Lloyd.
One thing that has me a little worried is that these guys, although all of them are fantastic actors, don’t seem very Czech, I like my movies to carry the authenticity of their native language and would much prefer to read subtitles than watch two Irish dudes put on their best accent.
This doesn’t mean I am not looking forward to it, it made my list. I am a huge fan of everyone involved in this movie and it will be great to see two of Ireland’s top actors work together…who knows we may even see the beginning of Dornan starting to wash off the stains of Fifty Shades Of Grey.
