Uncut Gems (Review): One Of Last Year’s Best Films Is Now On Netflix

Yeah, Uncut Gems, the film that starred Adam Sandler, yup, that Adam Sandler, Mr Man-child himself. And you know something? it was one of the best roles of the year. Actually, after watching Uncut Gems, I have found a new love for Adam Sandler and I can just hope he chooses these sort of non-comedic roles from now on.

Uncut Gems is a new film from The Safdie Brothers. This directing duo just appeared out of nowhere when (The Batman) actor, Robert Pattinson noticed a movie poster for an older movie they directed. Pattinson emailed the directors complimenting them on their visual taste. Pattinson stated in his email that he would love to work for the directors in a new project. This is how Good Time was born, with the part of Connie written for Pattinson himself. You can also check out Good Time on Netflix

Good Time rocketed the Safdie Bros into the spotlight and that ladies and gentlemen led to Uncut Gems.

Sandler plays Howard Ratner, a gambler suffocating in debt and the loansharks are looking to be paid in cash or blood. But Sandler’s character only gets in more trouble, risking everything he has on more gambling.

This was a tense ride for sure and the ending was fantastic. It may not have been to everyone’s liking but I was blown away at the finale. It really proves that when Sandler ain’t writing or starring in any of his Happy Madison films, the guy is one hell of an actor.

It wasn’t his first non-comedic role either

Sandler also starred alongside Don Cheadle in another fantastic drama called Reign Over Me. So, basically, I have always known Sandler can act really well, just not in the mindless, childish comedies that pollute Netflix.

Uncut Gems is now available on Netflix. Watch it, drop me a message to let me know what you thought of it!

As always, thanks for reading.
