Alexandre Aja, director of French female-led slasher Switchblade Romance aka Haute Tension, & The Hills Have Eyes remake is back with new killer alligator movie Crawl.
So what’s it about?
Who cares? – it has killer alligators tearing people to shreds
After a category 5 hurricane rips through a small American town, a daughter and father are trapped inside of their house along with some new hungry guests…giant alligators.
We are so long overdue a new killer croc/gator movie. There has been some that have stuck with me throughout the years, and no!, I don’t mean the Lake Placid movies.
I am not 100% but I am pretty sure they were both Australian productions. They were called Black Water, and Rogue. Both of those movies were simplistic af but still managed to tick all the boxes for a great, tense, man (or woman) v nature creature-feature.
And yes, I also found a lot to love about the shark-infested supermarket movie, Bait. Was it stupid? yes! without a doubt but it was still great popcorn entertainment and this is all I am looking for in Crawl. I enjoyed Bait way more than I enjoyed the watery Jason Statham tripe, Meg.
I mention Bait because it really seems to follow the same formula: survivors trapped inside a confined area with some meat hungry predators. And if we don’t seem to like the characters too much, a dog will be thrown into the mix – what soulless piece of shit doesn’t like a doggo? we will then all be gripped to the screen. We don’t care about anyone or anything, except the dog…DON’T KILLLLL THE DOG!
Crawl stars Kaya Scodelario and Barry Pepper. It is due for release on July 12th (2019)
Enjoy the trailer.
As always, thanks for reading.
