I hope to hook you up with new shows and films.
Remember when Breaking Bad was first released?. No one could believe it was the dad from Malcolm In The Middle playing the role of Walter White. Then the whole planet lost their shit as we watched Bryan Cranston evolve into one of the greatest characters in the history of television.
Well, this is exactly what we have here with Jason Bateman in OZARK. We are used to seeing this man in comedy roles, mainly in the great Arrested Development. This new Netflix original allows him to explore new acting territory and he does it well.
OZARK tells the story of accountant Marty Byrde. After his accounting firm gets involved with Mexican drug cartels he’s left with no choice but to move his family to Ozarks, Missouri.
With new identities, Marty is tasked with cleaning the cartel’s money. If you’re new in town and throwing serious cash around, then people are going to hear about you. He must find an impossible balance between the cartels he is working for and the local drug runners who ain’t happy with their new resident.
Season 1 consists of 10-episodes with one of the most shocking season finales that I can remember. A cracking cast including Laura Linney (The Truman Show, Primal Fear), Peter Mullen (Top Of The Lake) Charlie Tahan (Super Bad Times).
OFFICIAL PLOT (Google)
Created by Bill Dubuque (“The Accountant,” “The Judge”), this drama series stars Jason Bateman as Marty Byrde, a financial planner who relocates his family from Chicago to a summer resort community in the Ozarks. With wife Wendy and their two kids in tow, Marty is on the move after a money-laundering scheme goes wrong, forcing him to pay off a substantial debt to a Mexican drug lord in order to keep his family safe. While the Byrde’s fate hangs in the balance, the dire circumstances force the fractured family to reconnect.
Without A Doubt, Ozark Is Going To Be The Next Biggest Thing.
With the success of Jose Padilha’s Netflix original NARCOS, it’s no surprise there’s a new show about Mexico’s drug kingpin, El Chapo.
The show deals with the rise and fall of one of Mexico’s most feared men, Joaquín “El Chapo” Guzmán. Although dramatised for the series, the life of El Chapo was scary as hell. The man was a complete psychopath, letting nothing get in his way on his rise to power.
The exact same gritty series that we have with Narcos. No one is safe, with murders happening at an alarming rate. El Chapo was a man with no regard for human life and man who took plenty of
Nothing is wrapped up at the end of the first season so expect to see a season 2 announced very soon.
OFFICIAL PLOT (IMDb)
A look at the life of notorious drug kingpin, El Chapo, from his early days in the 1980s working for the Guadalajara Cartel, to his rise to power of during the ’90s and his ultimate downfall in 2016.
Legendary French actor, Gerard Depardieu stars as the mayor of Marseille in this new Netflix original series.
This show has all of the ingredients of solid political crime drama. On the outside, the mayor looks professional with only his city’s best interests at heart. But not so deep beneath the surface, there’s affairs, cocaine addiction, betrayal. When his protege surprisingly goes against him to run for Mayor, the past that he thought he had buried starts to come back to haunt him putting his career and life in danger.
Marseille is a superbly written drama
Marseille does a fantastic job at showing us the immense beauty of picturesque Southern France while at the same time showing us the dark and gritty underworld that lies beneath the surface.
OFFICIAL PLOT (Wiki)
After 20 years as mayor of Marseille, Robert Taro (Depardieu) enters into a war of succession with his former protégé turned rival Lucas Barres (Benoît Magimel). Both men are members of the “UPM” party, based on the centre-right UMP (Union for a Popular Movement).
It’s great to see that Netflix is looking to South Korea for some original content. We all know of the calibre of movies that the South Koreans release, so to get a gripping series is quite the treat.
As much as Netflix previews annoy the shit out of me, sometimes something special pops up and I knew one of those was going to be STRANGER.
New Netflix Original series Stranger is a South Korean crime series. It focuses on a prosecutor who is unable to feel empathy. Along with a female detective, the two must solve a murder that leads them into a world of political corruption.
Great Netflix Original Series from South Korea, hopefully, more like this will follow.
A prosecutor without empathy and a bold female police are taking a murder case involving unrestrained political corruption.
NARCOS (season 3 coming soon)
In the first two seasons of Narcos, the show dealt with the rise and fall of the Columbian drug lord, Pablo Escobar. There is always someone next in line to fill the shoes of the fallen drug lord.
The third season of Narcos picks up right after the death of Pablo Escobar. It would seem that even with the death of Escobar the DEA haven’t as much as made a dent in the coke industry.
Next In Line Are The Cali cartel
These guys were just as bad as Escobar, if not worse. Season 3 can’t come quick enough, it will be one of the biggest new shows of the year. No doubt I’ll binge watch the whole season in one sitting.
THANKS FOR READING.
1000 WORDS IS ENOUGH FOR ANYONE. I WILL BE BACK WITH PART-2. I FEEL I’VE MORE NETFLIX ORIGINAL SERIES’ TO COVER.
