Neill Blomkamp’s demonic – check images and behind the scenes Footage

As a massive fan of Neill Blomkamp, the best thing to come out of this God damn pandemic was the news that Neill Blomkamp has somehow managed to shoot a movie during this whole shit-storm of events. Not only that but Blomkamp’s new film is a horror film, and while his sci-fi flicks do have elements of horror in them, this is his first feature in the genre. Of course, it wouldn’t be a Blomkamp movie without some sci-fi too.

I am delighted to share with you all the official press release from IFC Midnight for Blomkamp’s new horror, Demonic. The press release includes the first released images, as well as release info and a behind the scenes look at the film.

Fukushima 50 – the heroic real-life story of the ultimate scarifice

When it comes to disaster movies, no one can quite do it like Asia. We have had some fantastic releases including, Pandora, The Tunnel, The Tower and Earthquake. The thing is, unlike Hollywood productions with L.A crumbling, and The Rock hanging from helicopters trying to save his family, Asian disaster movies are based on real events. Fukushima 50 is based on the most terrifying event of them all: biblical-scale earthquakes leading to a meltdown putting the whole of Japan and the rest of the world at risk of a nuclear catastrophe worse than Chernobyl. This film follows the heroic actions of the ones that sacrificed their lives to prevent Fukushima from further devastation and reaching a global scale.

OFFICIAL FILM SYNOPSIS:

Japan’s Tohoku Region: at a magnitude of 9.0, the strongest earthquake in the country’s history strikes, triggering a huge tsunami and carnage that would end up killing thousands of people and displacing many more. It mercilessly engulfs the Fukushima Daiichi nuclear power plant in Fukushima prefecture, causing a crippling station blackout. Unable to be cooled, the nuclear reactors quickly turn into hydrogen bombs at the brink of explosion. If the power plant is abandoned, Japan’s destruction is assured. Facing a life or death situation, the power plant workers known as the “Fukushima 50”, including shift supervisor Izaki and plant manager Yoshida, remain on the site until the bitter end. As the world holds its breath, the Fukushima 50 fight for their hometown, their families, and the future of Japan.

Secret Zoo Film Review: A lighthearted comedy that definitely hit the mark

Son Jae-Gon keeps making contributions to the comedy genre (The Man Who Saw Too Much, My Scary Girl, Villain and Widow), now with a trendy but beautiful message in it; in this Globalized World, there is still people with principles who believe we can coexist with Mother Nature.

Even when it has some cliches, you can find some originality in it.

It’s based on the webtoon “I Don’t Bully You” by Hun.

The film begins with Tae-soo, who works in a temp position in a very well-known law firm; he is a bottom feeder there, of course he wants to impress his boss and the opportunity comes as the new Dongsan Park Zoo Director; he has to revitalize the failed zoo in 3 months so that the firm can make more money by selling it to another client, the problem is… there are no animals and he has no budget.

He comes up with the idea of making animal costumes for the staff to wear and fool people, until they make enough money to get their animals back.

They are not doing well until a happy accident happens, a marketing strategy in real life that helps them go viral and start having hundreds of visitors; at times it feels like they are sponsored by certain brand of carbonated drinks, still is funny how people enjoy the show, even when sometimes they are rude.

It seems it would be easy but we need a villain, in this case the Law Firm, which will become greedy and reveal their true plans.

I think by now, we all know what will happen, but is still a really fun ride to see and laugh with the characters; I would see it’s 98% family friendly because it has a few “adult jokes” but nothing outrageous.

I enjoyed the performances, cast is fantastic in their characters, very charming; the animal costumes are incredible well made, they look realistic… I think the polar bear looks more realistic than “Black Nose”, the “real” polar bear (CGI) in the movie.

If you are looking for a fun movie to enjoy, I highly recommend Secret Zoo.

Cast includes: Ahn Jae-Hong, Kang So-ra, Park Yeong-gyu, Kim Sung-oh and Jeon Yeo-been

You can watch it in Korean with subtitles in English and English SDH or dubbed in English.

Secret Zoo it’s already available on VOD and DVD.

Graphic Novel Ignites Graphic Violence In Random Acts Of Violence

Random Acts Of Violence

Random Acts Of Violence focuses on the author of a hugely popular R-rated graphic novel. Unable to come up with an idea on the final issue and how to end his story, he embarks on a cross-country road trip with his girlfriend, his assistant and best friend, the owner of Hard Calibre Comics. Not long into their trip, they realise that a crazy fan has taking cosplay to a new, dangerous level. Someone is recreating the brutal murders from his graphic novel, Slasherman.

It ain’t very often we get a production that dares to delve into the brutality that Random Acts Of Violence shows. I mean, it isn’t the most graphic and hardcore slasher I have ever seen. But, for an English-language production…it’s well up there.

If I am being perfectly honest, I was a little worried that this flick wouldn’t live up to the title but after the first killing, I can wholeheartedly admit…I was so wrong! You all know that I love my gore and on-screen violence. Random acts of violence really set the bar high. I was that impressed with the first slaughter that I must have watched it about ten times with each time being more amazed at this frenzied vicious killing.

Using a crazed fan and a graphic novel for the fuel for the carnage was a refreshing approach to take

Random Acts Of Violence is a hugely enjoyable slasher. A tense and brutal horror that cuts to the bone. The writing and directing from Jay Baruchel was on point. Baruchel is known for his role in Seth Rogen movie, This Is The End and also, How To Train Your Dragon. Random Acts Of Violence wouldn’t be the type of film you’d expect from Baruchel. It is miles away from the movies he is known for but it already makes Baruchel a key-player in the horror genre. I hope he continues and follows-up with another genre breaker!

Director: Jay Baruchel
Writers: Jay Baruchel, Jesse Chabot
Producers: Jay Baruchel, Randy Manis, Noah Segal
Starring: Jesse Willimas, Jordana Brewster, Jay Baruchel, Niamh Wilson
Music: Wade MacNeil and Andrew Gordon Macpherson

Trailer For New Sci-Fi Anthology UNDERGODS

Fantasia International Film Festival has dropped the first trailer for new sci-fi anthology ahead of the world premiere for 2020 Virtual Festival

Wow, it looks like Fantasia International Film Festival has done it again. We have so much amazing content coming our way. One of these films is Undergods, a new sci-fi anthology

It is a rare thing for us to get a sci-fi anthology. I mean, we have countless horror anthologies but sci-fi?…well, it’s almost unheard of. We have really been starved of sci-fi that ain’t mainstream bollix. Apart from 2020 being the biggest sci-fi this year, we have had very little. It looks like Undergods may fill that empty void.

Chino Moya’s, Undergods offers us a look at a frail dystopian future dealing with multiple characters across the U.K and Europe.

Here is the official plot from the Fantasia International Film Festival Press-Release

An otherworldly journey through a Europe in decline, Chino Moya’s UNDERGODS is a collection of aesthetically astonishing, darkly humorous fantasy tales about a series of men whose worlds fall apart through a visit from an unexpected stranger. This singular visual feast is a co-production between the UK, Belgium, Estonia, Serbia, and Sweden with a cast that includes Geza Rohrig (SON OF SAUL), Johann Meyers (SNATCH), Hayley Carmichael (LES MISERABLES), Eric Godon (IN BRUGES), Kate Dickie (THE WITCH), Adrian Rawlins (CHERNOBYL), Ned Dennehy (MANDY), and an especially crazed Jan Bijvoet (BORGMAN). World Premiere

Fantasia Press-Release

We have some really good names among the cast for Undergods. That and a trailer that just entices you and reels you in without spoiling any major plot points makes this new sci-fi one to be looking forward to.

Trailer For New Cult Folk Horror Luz: The Flower Of Evil

Witness the messiah in Luz: The Flower Of Evil. This looks like a treat for fans of cult/folk horror.

The trailer for Luz: The Flower Of Evil is the best trailer for a horror movie I have seen in some time. It offers a lot of “what the fuck?”, plenty of nudity, cults, and yes, we’ve some satanic goats because satan and goats seem like good friends in horror movies. At the same time, it is beautiful, vibrant & visually hypnotic. Luz: The Flower Of Evil seems like a perfect mix of recent cult horror. Blending likes of The VVitch with the draw-dropping scenery and cults of Midsommar.

Here is the official press-release. You can find the trailer at the bottom of the article. I hope you enjoy.

Cosplay Reaches New Serial Killer Levels In Random Acts Of Violence

Get ready for some killer cosplay in Random Acts Of Violence. Arriving soon…only on Shudder

A cult-hit in the making, Jay Baruchel’s long-anticipated RANDOM ACTS OF VIOLENCE, adapted from the popular 2010 horror graphic novel by the same name, is a force to reckon with. The Canadian filmmaker and actor, best known for his comedic bow in THIS IS THE END and as the voice of Hiccup in the HOW TO TRAIN YOUR DRAGON series, has long been committed to bringing Justin Gray and Jimmy Palmiotti’s vicious pages to the big screen, and wrote, directed, produced and stars in the upcoming film.

RANDOM ACTS OF VIOLENCE explores ideas of legitimizing cruelty, the responsibility of the artist, and what makes a monster in society.

Masterfully lensed by award-winning cinematographer Karim Hussain (HOBO WITH A SHOTGUN, Brandon Cronenberg’s POSSESOR), the film holds a ferocious mirror up to art, society, and violence.

Featuring a knock-out cast, iconic kills, and a pulsating score from celebrated punk all-star Wade MacNeil (Alexisonfire, Black Lungs) and composer Andrew Gordon Macpherson (Vice’s Dark Side of The Ring) RANDOM ACTS OF VIOLENCE makes for a truly subversive sophomore feature from Baruchel, and the slasher film of the Summer.

Synopsis: What are the real consequences when life begins to imitate art? Comic book creator Todd Walkley (Jesse Williams), his wife Kathy (Jordana Brewster), assistant Aurora (Niamh Wilson) and best friend, Hard Calibre Comics owner Ezra (Baruchel), embark upon a road trip from Toronto to New York Comic Con and bad things start to happen. People start getting killed.

It soon becomes clear that a crazed fan is using Todd’s “SLASHERMAN” comic as inspiration for the killings and as the bodies pile up, and Todd’s friends and family become victims themselves, Todd will be forced to take artistic responsibility.

Random Acts Of Violence Redband Trailer

I have been doing a little bit of reading on the film. It was first announced in 2011, so it has been quite the wait for it to get the big-screen. Now, with the COVID, films are robbed of a theatrical release. So the “small-screen” and home viewing is where it’s at. It is more important now than ever that we support the genre and filmmakers we love.

IFC MIDNIGHT PICKS UP HAUNTING ALL-FEMALE CULT FILM ‘THE OTHER LAMB’

ENGLISH-LANGUAGE DEBUT OF CRITICALLY ACCLAIMED DIRECTOR MAŁGORZATA SZUMOWSKA

FROM IFC PRESS-RELEASE

NEW YORK, NY (OCTOBER 10, 2019) – IFC Midnight is acquiring North American rights to THE OTHER LAMB directed by Małgorzata Szumowska (BODY, MUG, ELLES) starring Raffey Cassidy (VOX LUX, THE KILLING OF A SACRED DEER), Michiel Huisman (GAME OF THRONES, THE HAUNTING OF HILL HOUSE), and Denise Gough (COLETTE, JULIET NAKED) and is written by award-winning Australian screenwriter Catherine S. McMullen (TWO SENTENCE HORROR STORIES).

The screenplay was featured on the 2017 BLACK LIST, HIT LIST and BLOOD LIST and had its World Premiere as a Special Presentation at the 2019 Toronto International Film Festival. The film most recently screened at the 2019 Fantastic Fest and is currently in competition at the 2019 BFI London Film Festival. Szumowska has previously won the Silver Bear at the Berlin International Film Festival 2015 for her film BODY and subsequently the Grand Jury Prize for her film MUG in 2018. IFC Midnight will release the film in 2020.

THE OTHER LAMB is a haunting and nightmarish tale that tells the story of Selah (Raffey Cassidy), a young girl born into an alternative religion known as The Flock.

The members of the Flock – all women and female children – live in a rural compound, and are led by one man, known only as Shepherd (Michiel Huisman). Selah, a daughter who is on the cusp of teenage-hood, is an incredibly devoted follower but begins to bond with Sarah (Denise Gough), an outcast wife who has grown sceptical of Shepherd’s teachings. Selah is given the great honour of participating in the sacred ritual of the birthing of the lambs – upon which they depend for survival – where she has a shocking and transformative experience. She begins to have strange visions that make her question her own reality, and everything the Shepherd has taught her and her sisters.
Arianna Bocco EVP of Acquisitions and Productions of IFC Films said,

“THE OTHER LAMB is the perfect addition to our 2020 slate of boundary-pushing and auteur-driven titles. Malgo’s distinct, original, and commanding approach to the film is completely in line with our goal of broadening the definition of what genre film can be. We unanimously wanted to work with her.”

Director Małgorzata Szumowska added “I couldn’t be more thrilled to partner with IFC on my English-language debut. Their history of championing auteurs from Europe in North America is incredible, and I’m very happy to join their roster of iconoclastic storytellers.”

The film was produced by Academy Award®-nominee David Lancaster and Stephanie Wilcox of Rumble Films (WHIPLASH, NIGHTCRAWLER, EYE IN THE SKY) together with Aoife O’Sullivan and Tristan Orpen Lynch of Subotica (MISS JULIE, 2014; YOUNG ONES, 2014), Danish producer Marie Gade Denessen of Zentropa (THE HOUSE THAT JACK BUILT, 2018; THE HUNT, 2012) and in co-production with Umedia (MY BRILLIANT FRIEND, 2019; MANDY, 2018). Executive produced by Julia Godzinskaya, Will Norton, and Sophie Vickers of Rooks Nest Entertainment and Jon Shiffman and Andrew Schwartzberg of Rumble Films. The film is made with the participation of Fís Éireann/Screen Ireland and is an official Irish-Belgian co-production.

The deal was negotiated by EVP of Acquisitions and Productions of IFC Films Arianna Bocco and Director of Acquisitions Aijah Keith with UTA Independent Film Group on behalf of the filmmakers. International sales are being handled by TrustNordisk.
