THE BEST TV SHOWS TO STREAM ON PARAMOUNT PLUS

Here’s a list of the best TV Shows to stream on Paramount Plus. There’s a wide variety with everything from American thrillers to comedies to South Korean religious cult dramas and horror.

I have been subscribing to Paramount Plus now for a few months so, I feel I have built enough viewing to make the very first Moviehooker list. Make no mistake, folks, Paramount Plus have some fantastic titles, including K Drama originals.

YOUR HONOUR

Starring Breaking Bad’s Bryan Cranston in another addictive crime series. After his son accidentally kills someone in a hit-and-run accident, a well-respected judge hides the crime to protect him, not knowing that the person who was killed was the only son of a notorious mobster.

Filled of breathtaking moments and shocking reveals, Bryan Cranston shows us his tremendous range in another flawless performance. Season two finally arrived and both can now be streamed on Paramount Plus

YELLOWJACKETS

Starring Christina Ricci, Melanie Lynskey, Juliette Lewis. Yellowjackets is a powerful survival drama with elements of gruesome horror…and a phonemail OST. And YAY! We also get Elijah Wood in season 2!

A group of teens’ plane crashes leaving them stranded in an unknown jungle with no way of finding help. They must come to terms with their new way of life but lack of supplies forces them to do unspeakable things. Mistrust quickly fogs the brains of the once close-knit friends leaving everyone to sleep with one eye open

WACO

Based on the shocking true story of the Branch Davidians, a cult from Texas who went head-to-head on their compound with the American government in a bloody battle that lasted over 200 days.

There have been quite a few adaptations of this story but I think this is the strongest of them all. Part of that reason is that the cast is led by the awesome Michael Shannon

WACO: THE AFTERMATH

A contrition of the events that happened in Waco, Texas. This is a side of the story that we have never got to see. The aftermath of those who were involved in the Davidian cult massacre. Michael Shannon continues his role in the follow-up series to Waco

THE CURSE

The Curse sit among my favourite TV shows of 2023. Created by Benny Sadie and Nathan Fielder, and starring Emma Stone, Sadie and Fielder.

A married couple who run a cringe reality TV show has a curse put on them when the husband tricks a little girl, pretending he was going to give her £100 but snapping the cash back out of her little hands when he gets the footage he needed.

The Curse was created by both Sadie and Fielder. Got those of you who don’t know Safdie is one half of the Sadie Bros, the creators of Robert Pattinson crime thriller Good Time (Also Good Time co-stars Safdie as the brother). The Safdie Brothers then went on to write and direct the fantastic Adam Sandler film Uncut Gems. I was introduced to the hilarious Nathan Fielder through The Curse and was more than happy to hear he had his own tv show which is also on Paramount Plus (featured below)

NATHAN FOR YOU

Created and starring Nathan Fielder, Nathan For You is a series about a guy who believes he has the confidence, know-how and skills to help other businesses turn a better profit. The thing is, his ideas are just bonkers, and always with awkward, hilarious results.

I think Nathan For You would be an acquired taste. If you are into TV shows like The Office (UK or U.S) or Parks & Rec’ then you will love Nathan For You.

THE CHEMISTRY OF DEATH

Starring Harry Treadaway (Mr Mercedes) as a highly skilled forensic pathologist who leaves the world of crime behind to become a doctor in the scenic, peaceful rural English countryside. When the body of a young girl is found murdered, he is thrown into the world he tried so hard to leave behind.

This is a solid British crime series and can be quite graphic at times. Treadaway is fantastic in the lead with his character reminding you of the fragility of Will Graham from FX’s Hannibal.

A great watch for those who enjoy a bleak British crime drama.

SAVE ME

One huge thing I have noticed with South Korean cinema is that they use the art of film, be it a TV show or a movie to highlight the serious problems in Korean society. These problems are very rarely heard of outside of Korean culture. I have seen so many that deal with suicide, discrimination and bullying but the topic of Save Me is a first for – Religious Korean Cults. Supposedly, this is a huge problem in South Korea.

A family move to a new house in the countryside and gets involved with a religious cult, The young girl of the family enlists the help of 4 school friends to come to the country and rescue them from the hands of the evil religious cult.

BARGAIN

Bargain is an insane, graphic and violent series that somehow “nearly” got past me. This one is also a Paramount Plus Original and the less you know going in, the better. This one is definitely for those who like their TV Shows a little bit on the dark and twisted side.

A man is set up after the promise of meeting an underage girl for sex. He finds himself naked and strapped to a table with doctors and operating tools at his side. He is surrounded by strangers all waiting to place their bids to obtain his organs. But a freak earthquake then traps everyone in the building with no way out. Madness begins!
