Joaquin Phoenix stars in YOU WERE NEVER REALLY HERE
You Were Never Really Here has been on the list since the film first went into pre-production. Like a lot of movies, I had completely forgotten about You Were Never Really Here. Sometimes I think my mind goes into movie hyper-sleep when I get excited about too many films. Then, BANG, the film is made and the trailer has just dropped…where did all the time go?
You Were Never Really Here is directed and written by Lynne Ramsay. Ramsay is best known (to me anyway) as the director of the phenomenal, We Need To Talk About Kevin. A film I adore but have only managed to ever watch it twice – it’s just that hardcore!. It also features one of the best teenage performances from a young Ezra Miller; that young man sure mastered the art of uneasiness.

Another reason You Were Never Really Here is one to watch out for is the music. The film’s OST was written and performed by Radiohead’s Jonny Greenwood. Greenwood is one of my musical heroes. He always has been. His previous work includes scoring the OST’s for There Will Be Blood, and Denis Villeneuve’s, Prisoners.
I don’t want to look into the movie that much, I don’t want to spoil anything for myself. Basically, what we got here is a gritty and violent hitman revenge thriller. Joaquin Phoenix looks like he could be up for some awards for his role.
Ramsay wrote the screenplay based on a novel by Jonathan Ames.
OFFICIAL PLOT (IMDb)
A missing teenage girl. A brutal and tormented enforcer on a rescue mission. Corrupt power and vengeance unleash a storm of violence that may lead to his awakening.
AS ALWAYS, THANKS FOR READING. ENJOY THE TRAILER FOR: YOU WERE NEVER REALLY HERE
