Titane: The New Palme d’Or Winner

Titane is the new film by Raw director Julia Ducournau.

The new film recently took home the prestigious Palme d’Or making Julia Dorcournau the second only female person to win the award. The other award went to Jane Campion in 1993 for The Piano

With Dorcournau’s first film, Raw, we got a tasty little cannibal movie about a vet student who finds herself battling an addiction to human flesh. Now for her 2nd feature, she’s revved up the wtf metre to bring us Titane and it just sounds glorious, bat-shit bananas, but so, so glorious.

What Is Titane About?

Well, we do know we are going to be treated to some insane body horror. And us folks here at Moviehooker are always up for some new body horror. As for the plot, well, there ain’t much to go on…just a couple of things. We can confirm that it centres around a woman starting a very unusual relationship with an automobile. Yes. you read that right! I think we have a new sub-genre in the making “motor-erotica”. Not only does this woman get into some dodgy relationship with a car…but the car also impregnates her. I’ve have no idea how this is going to play out but one thing is for sure!!. I think Ducournau has come up with a premise that sounds truly unique and original. I’m pretty sure Titane with shock us as equally as it does amaze us.

With Raw, we knew that Julie Ducournau was certainly a name that we had to watch out for. Now, with Titane, and winning the Palme d’Or at Cannes, this proves that she is one of the best filmmakers working today. Someone, who ain’t scared to push the buttons of the viewers, takes them on a different, and unique journey to somewhere they’ve could never have imagined they’ll be.
