HOT SKULL: New Netflix Series Is The Turkish Pontypool

Pontypool was one of the most unique viral outbreak movies ever released and still is to this day. A very clever form of infection that is spread through the English language. Hot Skull takes the. same sort of premise but ramps it up to 11 adding in very clever elements to give this its own ease of life.

The virus in Hot Skull is also spread through speech. The uninfected now spend their days wearing large can headphones to drown out sound and to prevent getting infected “Headphones save lives”. If you become infected with this virus, the first symptom is known as a “jabberer”. I laughed at the first time I heard the randomness coming out of the infected’s mouth. I thought of who was writing these obscenities and how fun it must have been to come up with such randomness. But to be honest, the more jabbering I heard, the more uncomfortable I became – it is actually pretty scary, especially when you see it in children. 5 minutes alone with a jabberer and your mind will be broken beyond repair.

The series follows an immune man who could lead to a possible cure for the virus. The resistance and the newly formed government, the AEI are both hunting him down to find out why he wasn’t getting infected when exposed to jabberers for lengthy amounts of time.

Just like most virus outbreaks in shows and movies, not everybody is as they seem. People have their own struggles they’re hiding and the real reason why they need a cure for the virus.

Hot Skull is now available to stream on Netflix. It is a mini-series, so it is well easy to binge. It has a total of 8-episodes, all roughly 45 minutes long. I hope you enjoy it as much as I did. As always, thanks for reading.
