Dark Match: Wrestlers Fight To The Death For Religious Cult

Dark Match is another flick we’ve been eager to check out from this year’s Fantasia International Film Festival

Dark Match is the new film from writer/director Lowell Dean, the mastermind behind Wolf Cop and Wolf Cop 2: Another Wolf Cop.

Wolf Cop was one of those adorable movies that was impossible not to love. When I heard the title of the aptly named sequel Wolf Cop 2: Another Wolf Cop, I thought to myself that we have a new B-Movie maestro in our midst. So, to get to check out Dark Match will be a pleasure.

The film is about a small indie wrestling company that are struggling to make ends meet. But, they think things are about to change after the news of a well-paid wrestling gig in a dodgy rural backwoods town. The team soon realise that this gig was too good to be true and instead of being the entertainment, they are the targets of a mysterious religious cult who have other plans for the wrestlers.

Official Plot (press release)

Wrestler ‘Miss Behave’ has her name for a reason. She‘s an ill-tempered beast in the
ring and far from satisfied with her status in her amateur wrestling league. Miss is tired
of playing the heel, pandering to abusive fans, and being overlooked by the “big show”.
But that said… she also needs to work.

Miss hesitantly agrees to take part in a non-televised “dark match” roadshow that’s
literally in the middle of nowhere – the money is THAT good. But when she and her
fellow wrestlers reach the creepy destination, they realize too late that the weekend
won’t go as planned.

They’ve been lured by small town satanists with serious ulterior motives… and a very
mysterious leader. The wrestlers are drugged. Faces (hero wrestlers) are separated
from the heels (villains). When the event begins, Miss and her friends are pitted against
each other, one at a time, in a kill or be killed event that’s part gladiator match, part
ritual sacrifice.
