Updated: Trailer For Gareth Evans Netflix Cult Thriller Apostle – Moviehooker

Trailer for upcoming Netflix cult thriller APOSTLE

Apostle is the new film from the director of The Raid movies. This time, Gareth Evans steps away from the bone-crunching martial arts and enters the creepy world of the occult.

The film stars Dan Stevens (The Guest), Lucy Boynton (Murder On The Orient Express), Mark Lewis Jones ( Star Wars: The Last Jedi) and Michael Sheen (Good Omens).

OFFICIAL PLOT

“Prodigal son Thomas Richardson (Dan Stevens) has returned home, only to learn that his sister is being held for ransom by a religious cult. Determined to get her back at any cost, Thomas travels to the idyllic island where the cult lives under the leadership of the charismatic Prophet Malcolm (Michael Sheen). As Thomas infiltrates the island’s community, he learns that the corruption of mainland society that they claim to reject has infested the cult’s ranks nonetheless – and uncovers a secret far more evil than he could have imagined. Apostle is a harrowing occult fable where the only thing more horrifying than madness is the sinister reality behind.”

I like the sound of Michael Sheen as the head of this cult. I have always been a fan of the man’s acting. He played a scary character starring alongside Sam Jackson in Unthinkable. His performance was just terrifying. So, I am eagerly waiting to see him take on this role to see what weirdness and uneasiness he brings to the screen.

The release date for Apostle has been confirmed for the 12th of October. Put that date into your Netflix diaries. This is a film that’s shaping up to be something special.

The trailer has just landed. Check it out below.

For those of you who are fans of Evans’ work. His first film was called Footsteps. It was shot in his hometown in Wales (I think). He then went to Indonesia and met Iko Uwais and Co. Soon after they released their first movie, Merantau Warrior.

Unable to get funding to make Berandal, The Raid movie was born. No word yet on The Raid 3 but you guys will be the first to know.

Also, keep an eye out for a movie called The Night Comes For Us. This is a film I have been following for years. It has been in development hell (since 2013), but it finally looks like things are moving forward.

Gareth Evans and Iko Uwais are both involved with The Night Comes For Us. Evans will supposedly be directing the action scenes (or at least some of them). Uwais will be choreographing the fighting and breaking heads.

More to follow on APOSTLE as news is announced. As always, thanks for reading.
