John Carpenter Still Wants To Make A Deadspace Movie

A decade later and John Carpenter still wants to make a Deadspace movie

Deadspace is one of the best games on the market. There is no other way to way to describe it, it is pure cosmic body-horror terror and 100%, one of the scariest games you will ever play.

There have been a few adaptations which were fkn awesome. I would highly recommend them, but unfortunately, many people wouldn’t give them the time of day because they’re animated. Though, there’s probably good reasoning behind those releases because a live-action would be an expensive movie.

Although set in space, Deadspace shares some of the same body-horror terror as Carpenter’s, The Thing. The Thing was based on a book called Who Goes There? and that book was heavily inspired by H.P Lovecraft’s At The Mountains Of Madness. Deadspace takes that terror and mutates it 1000x resulting in one of the most cosmic Lovecraftian horrors in existence.

I always wanted Neil Blomkamp to take a stab at Deadspace. He has a short film which is part of his Oats Studios Volume 1 called Zygote. The Deadspace vibe was immensely strong in that film. And of course, it would be a sin not to mention the work of the great Guillermo del Toro, he would another awesome choice. There are also the two dudes who gave us The Void movie (Jeremy Gillespie and Steven Kostanski) another excellent Lovecraftian cosmic horror. But everyone mentioned above is now irrelevant because the godfather of cosmic horror wants to make this. There’s no better man for the job. It’s about time we got treated to some modern cosmic terror! We sure don’t get enough of it.

Let’s hope it happens. Let’s make it happen!

Carpenter was asked in a recent interview with AV Club Which Computer Game he Would Like To Adapt Into A Feature Film. He said Deadspace and didn’t really care which one, because he thought they were all great…even the action one which nobody liked. Carpenter said something similar in an interview a decade ago. So, he’s a fan of the franchise and he’s the god of cosmic horror. This is just too good for someone to pass up.

Stay tuned as we eagerly await updates!

As always, thanks for reading.
