The Shadow Strays -Timo Tjhajanto Returns With New Actioner

The Shadow Strays is a new Indonesian action film from Timo Tjahjanto

A while back, Indonesian horror and action maestro Timo Tjhajanto signed a multi-film deal with Netflix. So far we have had May The Devil Take You, May The Devil Take You Too, Big 4, and now, a new brutal actioner, The Shadow Strays. All the other movies I have mentioned above need to be checked out too.

The Shadow Strays will feature a badass female protagonist and tells the story of a highly skilled 17-year-old assassin called Codename 13. 13 has to lay low and is forced into retirement by the company she works for after a botched mission. She then meets an 11-year-old boy who’s grieving the loss of his mother who was killed by a local crime syndicate. But when the 11-year-old boy is taken by the gangsters that killed his mother, Codename 13 begins a violent quest for vengeance while also targeting the Shadow company that forced her into retirement.

This sounds so good. I mean, it sounds like a pretty straightforward revenge story but the level of bone-crunching choreography, chaotic mayhem and blood-soaked carnage is what sets Tjajaanto apart from the rest. He makes proper action films never holds back on the goods and delivers the highest production quality across the board. He has a superb team that never seems to get mentioned, so here is a shout-out to his FX and sound design team! without those epic additions to his films, they would be nowhere near as good.

Ok, so here is the bad news. I think The Shadow Strays is currently in production which means we could be waiting a while before we get to see it (welcome to my world). If I had to guess then I would say we should get it in 2025 at some point. I will keep you all updated in regards to release info!

The Shadow Strays stars Aurora Ribero, Hana Malasan, Taskya Namya, Agra Piliang

Timo was also signed up to make his English-language debut with the remake of the South Korean zombie classic Train To Busan called Last Train To New York. The news of this remake was met with mixed emotions from fans. In my opinion, this man has worked his ass off, producing amazing films regardless if it’s action, horror or comedy. If anyone was to handle Train to Busan with care then I think there is no better man for the job. Remember, folks, he is a bigger horror fan than you are…he just gets to make movies. I wish these haters would at least wait until they see a trailer before condemning it to hell.

If you are new to Indonesian cinema then you have a lot of great films to look forward to from Timo Tjhajanto and also Timo Tjhajanto and Kimo Stamboel aka The Mo Bros. No matter if it is action or horror, these guys deliver.

Stay tuned for more information on The Shadow Strays.
