Deaner ’89 – screening details for new metal comedy

Deaner ’89 has been causing quite a loud racket in the indie movie scene and for good reason too. As a devoted lover of all things metal and rock, I am delighted to be able to share the press details below.

WINNIPEG, MB (August 2024)— Eagle Vision, PSA Productions and Mongrel Media are stoked to present the DEANER ‘89 roadshow and it’s going to be f**kin’ awesome! The national tour will feature the film’s star, writer and producer Paul Spence (FUBAR, FUBAR 2), who plays Dean Murdoch aka “The Deaner”, visiting cities across Canada to host special preview screenings of the film in advance of its nationwide release in theatres across Canada on September 6th. With appearances, screenings and after-parties, audiences will be able to meet “The Deaner” and select surprise cast and crew in Edmonton, Winnipeg, Toronto, Halifax, Vancouver, Victoria, Regina and Calgary starting on August 21st in Edmonton. Football fans will get a chance to meet “The Deaner” starting August 23rd in Winnipeg and at the Victoria, Regina, and Calgary Labour Day games through a partnership with the CFL. Come out and give’r!

In DEANER ‘89, hard-luck metalhead Dean Murdoch (Paul Spence) reveals how he finally made it, taking us back to the ’80s – when being a hockey jock was a badge of honour, Jazzercise was a national movement, seatbelts were optional, and teachers were as drunk as their students.

From director Sam McGlynn, DEANER ‘89 features an all-star Canadian cast including Paul Spence (FUBAR, I’m Not There), Will Sasso (MadTV, Loudermilk), Star Slade (Dream Scenario, Burden of Truth), Maddy Foley (The Boys), Mary Walsh (This Hour Has 22 Minutes) and Kevin McDonald (The Kids in the Hall). The film hits theatres across Canada on September 6th.

Paul Spence will lead the entire DEANER ‘89 Roadshow with select surprise cast members joining him along the way. We have Paul available for interviews upon request.
