I feel that Amazon have really stepped up their game. Their library of films is growing and they really have some impressive stuff on there, Below you will find my personal choices. Moviehooker’s Best Movies To Stream On Amazon Prime. A lot of classics in there, some new too. Hopefully, this article will make you revisit some oldies or find something new to watch. Either way I’ll be happy.

SALTBURN

One of the wildest films of recent year. Saltburn stars the awesome Barry Keoghan as Oliver Quick, a student at Oxford University who gets invited to stay at Saltburn, the luxurious home of super-wealthy Felix Cotton. Oliver is quickly thrown into a life of extreme wealth and wild arristrocratic parties. The more he desires, the more darkness seeps out from beneath his skin. The end result is unlike anything you’ve ever seen.

BARBARIAN

After a mix-up with an Air BNB, two strangers find themselves under the same roof in a strange neighbourhood. When one of them finds a hidden door with darkness and endless tunnels, the two can never imagine what awaits them.

Starring Bill Skarsgard, Georgina Campbell and Justin Long.

FARGO

A classic crime comedy from the brilliant minds of Ethan and Joel Coen aka The Coen Brothers. Starring the wonderful Graces McDormand, Steve Buscemi and William H Macy. Fargo tells the oddly, dark funny tale of a car salesman called Jerry whose get-rich-quick plan hilariously falls apart creating a chain of events that shocks the town of Fargo.

127 HOURS

The true story of Aron Ralston, a mountain climber who got stuck in between two rocks in the middle of nowhere. Aron was trapped and dehydrated with no food. His arm was trapped, preventing him from escaping. After 127 Hours he made the life-saving decision to cut off his own arm using a small pen knife.

This one was a great watch. 127 Hours is a true story of triumph. I don’t care what people say about Franco, the man can act and he is fantastic in 127 hours.

THE SILENCE OF THE LAMBS

Starring Jodie Foster and Anthony Hopkins as the legendary Dr Hannibal Lecter. A young brilliant FBI agent called Clarice Starling seeks the help of an intelligent murderous cannibal prisoner called Dr Hannibal Lector to help find a serial killer going by the name of Buffalo Bill.

The Silence of the Lambs has gone down as one of the best psychological crime films ever made. This film just is timeless and can never ever be topped.

A CURE FOR WELLNESS

I thought A Cure For Wellness was a superb film. It does a wonderful job at exploring a beautiful yet haunting Lovecraftian theme: the fear of the unknown. A young Wall Street hotshot is sent to the Swiss Alps to a well-being centre to help finalise a deal. The well-being centre is suited in an old castle and the scenery is breathtakingly gorgeous. However, it ain’t long before he starts to notice something is off with the patients getting treatment there.

RAMBO

I love John Rambo – I love that Stallone has kept true to his word. He has delivered crazy gore and violence with his Rambo films. I’m pretty sure there is a new one in the works, too. God knows who or what he will be fighting. I can tell you one thing though, I will be first in line to see it when it arrives.

Rambo vs Thailand and Burma. A group of Christian relief workers get kidnapped after not listening to John Rambo’s wise words. Now, Rambo must come out of retirement to rescue those who are kidnapped. This instalment featured some of the best gore to be ever put in an action film. Stallone really turned it up to 11 with this one. It was superb.

PANIC ROOM

Another film starring the great Jodie Foster (True Detective Night Country is releasing this month, too). It also stars Kristen Stewart and Forest Whittaker.

A recently divorced mother takes refuge with her diabetic daughter in a panic room in their house when intruders break in looking for documents worth a fortune.

THE TOWN

A fantastic and brilliantly written heist movie starring Ben Affleck, John Hamm, Rebecca Hall and Jeremy Renner.

A gang of professional bank robbers take one of the bank managers hostage during a heist. When one of the crew starts to fall for the hostage, it puts all their plans in jeopardy

FURY

A brilliant World War 2 epic. Astonishing performances from Brad Pitt, Shia LaBeouf, Jon Bernthal, Logan Lemar and Michael Pena. A tank commando faces almost impossible odds as he makes his way through war-torn Germany on a tank. It really shows you the hardships and pointlessness of war and how fragile human life can actually be.

As well as stellar writing and performances, Fury also has some of the best sound design. Trust me, this is up there with the best you’ll ever hear in a war epic.
