Halloween Horror: A List of 12 titles

HALLOWEEN HORROR – CONTINUED

 OUTSIDE

Outside is the first-ever Filipino zombie production and it is hitting Netflix on the 17th of October (that’s going to be an awesome day of viewing because Timo TjahJanto’s The Shadow Strays is also releasing).

The film focuses on the father of a family trying to keep his family alive when the dead start returning to life and attacking the living. He decides to travel back to his old childhood home to try to fortify it to save his family from the undead plague.

V/H/S BEYOND

The 7th instalment in the V/H/S franchise has fans going crazy and rightly so. This is by far the best entry into the franchise featuring some grotesque body horror and tales of cosmic terror.

From giant humanoid birds to human dogs to gruesome alien encounters, V/H/S Beyond is a sci-fi horror fan’s dream come true and the perfect fitting for Halloween horror

You can check out V/H/S Beyond on Shudder right now.

GRAVE TORTURE

The latest horror film from Indonesian horror auteur Joko Anwar. Grave Torture asks us: what happens to bad people when they die?

The film follows two abused siblings on the hunt for the man who destroyed their lives. They want to make sure that this man is punished not only in life but in the afterlife too and they set out to document his Grave Torture; a painful ritual that happens after death to evil wrongdoers who are visited by Hellish entities that inflict unimaginable pain that a mortal could not endure.

Joko Awar knocks it out of the park yet again. This is proper horror with the final act being some of the most memorable and nasty in recent memory. Great stuff.

Grave Torture is available in most countries on Netflix.

THE WAIT

The Wait is a new Spanish horror about a man in charge of a large hunting estate. He is told to build ten hunting stands but is pressured by the elite to add another three stands reducing the space. In doing this he is bringing the hunters closer together making it easier for fatal accidents to happen.

After the invertible accident, Eladio descends into his hell, haunted by visions of the deceased and overcome by paranoia that the whole village is part of a strange cult.

A wonderful blend of slow-burn Western horror with a dash of the occult.

SALEMS LOT

We have finally seen the release of the new Stephen King adaptation which sat shelved for years. You can check out Salem’s Lot right away on HBO MAX.

The original told the story of a writer who moves to a new town called Salem’s Lot and ends up in a bottle for survival against loads of vampires.

The original went down in history and had one of the creepiest moments in a horror movie. I am just wondering: will it have the same effect on us today?

The reviews have been a mixed bag, so I am looking forward to checking it out soon and making my own mind up.

I AM MONSTERS

I Am Moinsters is not so much a horror film about one of the most iconic horror figures in history. Nicolas Vince gives us a tell-all documentary on his history of being cast as some of the most memorable monsters in horror history.

This unique approach goes through Nicholas’ life in a documentary and theatrical style mash-up and is a must for fans of Clive Barker’s Monster Universe.

Release Date Oct 31, 2024 (UK, USA, Canada, Australia) – Limited Edition Blu-ray
