Abigail: New Vampire Horror Feels Like An Old-School Great

So, I finally got to check out, Abigail, the much-talked-about new vampire horror from Scream 6 and Ready or Not directors Matt Bettinelli-Olpin and Tyler Gillett

So, what is Abigail about?

The plot is a very basic one and offers us nothing new in regards to groundbreaking vampire horror but that ain’t a bad thing. What we get is a cleverly crafted vamp tale that takes inspiration from some of the vampire greats and makes it their own. I think I can safely say that this film is made up of Blade, From Dusk Till Dawn, Let The Right One In, Livid(e) Fright Night and maybe a little dribble of The Lost Boys.

A group of criminals kidnap the ballerina daughter of a very powerful underground crime figure. All they have to do is hold her captive and wait for a $50m ransom. But things take a nasty turn when Abigail starts to sprout fangs and starts to rip people apart. It soon becomes evident that they’re just the (soon-to-be-dead) playthings of an evil little bitch of a vampire.

When things get going, Abigail serves us a glorious helping of gore and blood spatter. When these bad boys are staked, you better take cover or have an umbrella because things get very messy.

Alisha Weir as Abigial, our fanged anti-hero steals the show and is a name that will be seeing a lot more of in the future. And, yay, she is Irish too so that automatically makes her better than most humans.

I will also be doing a more in-depth video review later today. I have tried to keep the spoilers here to a bare minimum- my video review should only be watched by those who have seen the movie.

Abigail stars Alisha Weir, Dan Stevens, Melissa Barrera, Kathryn Newton, Kevin Durand, Angus Cloud (🪦), Will Catlett and Giancarlo Esposito
