Everything You Need To Know About Bong Joon-ho’s MICKEY 17

Bong Joon-ho’s new feature is releasing this year. I thought I would get everyone up to speed on what to expect from the new English-language sci-fi epic

Okay, firstly let’s start off with the cast for Mickey 17: Robert Pattinson, Toni Colette, Mark Ruffalo, Steven Yeun, Naomi Ackle, Daniel Henshall and Thomas Turgoose. I’m super excited to see Henshall and Turgoose. Henshall previously played the brilliant part of serial killer John Bunting in The Snowtown Murders. Turgoose is best known for his role as Sean, the skinhead kid from Shane Meadows’ This Is England. It’s really something else to see these two together in a movie by the master Bong Joon-ho. It’s like everything I love about film throughout the years all connecting into one place.

Mickey 17 is based on a book by Edward Ashton. It follows the life of an expendable clone called Mickey Barnes. Tasked on a mission to an ice world called Niflheim, every time Mickey dies, a new one is born but his previous memories bleed into the memories of the newly born clone.

Bong Joon-ho will write, direct and produce the new sci-fi for Warner Brothers. We were looking at a release date of March 29th, 2024 but Warner have shelved the movie for further promotion (Joon-ho is the only promotion they need) And, just as it should be, this one will be getting a wide theatrical release. Go and see it on the biggest and loudest screen possible.

OFFICIAL PLOT FOR THE NOVEL MICKEY 7 BY EDWARD ASHTON (WIKI)

Mickey7 is an “expendable” space traveler sent on a near-certain-death mission to colonize the ice world Niflheim. When one Mickey dies, another is cloned in his place with most of his memories intact, effectively rendering him immortal.

Stay tuned for more information on Mickey 17. I will update this article when more news is announced. As always, thanks for reading.
