DEMIAN RUGNA‘S HIGHLY ANTICIPATED HORROR WHEN EVIL LURKS HITS SHUDDER THIS FRIDAY. I WAS FKN BLOWN AWAY BY THIS FILM – 10/10 – CHECK OUT MY REVIEW BELOW
Very Minor Spoilers in 1st paragraph

After hearing gunshots from their home in the rural countryside, brothers, Pedro and Jimmy set out at sunrise to find out where it came from. They reach a forest and notice the dismembered remains of a human body. The trail then leads the two brothers to a nearby farmhouse where they find a puss-filled man, bed-ridden, begging people to kill him. Shocked at the unimaginable repulsiveness of the man, they go to try and put him out of his misery. Anything that goes near this man will get infected with a very different type of disease: possession. In this world evil, lives among them. There are simple rules to follow to prevent these demons from reaching our world. These rules are, of course, broken.
That’s all I will say about the plot of the movie. There are a couple of minor spoilers above but trust me, this is only the tiniest and probably the least extreme bit in the film…and it’s still gross as fuck.
What follows is absolute mayhem. Every type of horror nastiness you could possibly think of or want is shoved into this film and it’s all crafted together beautifully. The acting is superb, the story is original, scary, and unpredictable. It masterfully takes multiple genres and inspirations and blends them all together. The result is like a reinvention of the genre – breathing new life into the tiresome sub-plots and sub-genres. And to top it all off, When Evil Lurks is as extreme and gruesome as they come.
When Evil Lurks has taken the top spot (which was Talk To Me) for my favourite horror of the year and to be honest, I don’t think this one will be beaten any time soon. Although not similar in their stories, both Talk To Me and When Evil Lurks take tiresome sub-genres to create something unique and very special showing us horror fans what true horror really is.
