10 Great Horror Films To Stream On Amazon Prime Video (UK/Ireland)

Halloween is approaching fast so I thought I would get a head start and get the first list live. Check out 10 Great Horror Films To Stream On Amazon Prime Video (UK/Ireland)

Okay, here is the first October list – 10 Great Horror Films To Stream On Amazon Prime Video (UK/Ireland) – Let’s get to it.

LAKE MUNGO

Lake Mungo recently received some love from horror maestro Mike Flanagan when he saw the premiere of a new 4K restoration.

One of the most popular found footage horror movies that leans more towards grief and loss than it does the supernatural.

The film is about the death of a young girl and the effects that her loss had on her family. It’s told through interviews with her family who believe her spirit is still with them.

HAGAZUSSA

Hagazussa is a remarkable slow-burn Austrian film that delves into witchcraft. This one won’t be for everyone, but, in my opinion, it is one of the better witchcraft movies.

It focuses on a woman who starts to go through erratic changes when her sick and evil mother dies. These changes are not only frightening the villagers but are putting the life of her newborn infant in direct danger.

HELL HOUSE 3

I can’t even remember if this one was super creepy but I am pretty sure all the Hell Houses are worth watching.

The story of the reopening of the infamous Abaddon Hotel and the new team that will fall victim to the supernatural forces that wait in the shadows.

NOSFERATU

Those of you looking forward to seeing Robert Eggers’ new vision can now witness the original 1922 classic on Amazon Prime Video.

The original tells the story of Jonathan Harker, a man who has to travel to stay with a man known only as Count Orlock.

It was so important that it paved the way for generations of filmmakers in the vampire/Dracula sub-genre and was the first-ever adaptation of Bram Stoker’s Dracula. Without a doubt, one of the OG great horror films in existence.

BONE TOMAHAWK

Bone Tomahawk would be considered horror and features some of the most gnarly kill scenes in recent memory.

From the writer/director of Brawl in Cell Block 99 and Dragged Across Concrete, Bone Tomahawk starts as a powerful Western and then explodes into a full-blown cannibal horror that would be hard to stomach for the average viewer.

SPLINTER

Splinter is one Hell of a film! This was way ahead of its time and it wasn’t until recently I realised just how much I loved it.

A weird parasitic organism that looks like black splinters infects your body and uses it as a vehicle to infect others. We follow a trio of survivors trapped inside a gas station who must come together if they’re to stand a chance of survival

The virus in Splinter has the same infectious rules as the Cordyceps virus from The Last of Us, so go check it out immediately if that’s your sort of horror. I will also say that Splinter features the most graphic and brutal arm chopping in cinematic history.

FROZEN

Frozen still holds up well today. I have a thing for these sorts of films where people are put up against Mother Nature with Mother Nature making sure that no one makes it out alive.

Two people are left stranded in below-zero temperatures when the ski lift they are riding on malfunctions leaving them stuck and forgotten about.

Think Open Water only set in the snow. This is a fine example of intense independent cinema and a masterclass in hopelessness.

FINAL CUT

Final Cut is the French remake of the brilliant Japanese indie One Cut Of The Dead and stars the awesome Romain Duris.

Low-budget filmmakers run into serious trouble while shooting their low-budget zombie flick.

I have yet to check this one out but I will today. The original was not so much a horror movie but a movie about love, passion and the constant obstacles filmmakers and actors face while shooting indie cinema.

BUNKER 717

Bunker 717 was a great surprise – this is a French claustrophobic horror about a group of young people who explore hidden tunnels under Paris where Nazi treasure is rumoured to be along with a mean Nazi general who gets resurrected and goes on a killing spree.

THE WOMAN

Lucky McKee’s The Woman follows a family who find a woman near their secluded property nestled deep in the woods. No one knows where she came from and she doesn’t speak. Instead of doing the right thing and helping her, the father of the house chains her up in the basement for his own twisted, sadistic pleasure until the woman cracks and unleashes her own Hell.
