Okay, I’m back again with a new list of great genre films you can stream on Amazon Prime (sorry, folks, this is for the UK/Ireland Prime members).
I’ve ten genre films listed below and a wide variety of sub-genres so I can guarantee that there will be something there for everyone
DELIVER US FROM EVIL
I guess you could class Deliver Us From Evil as more of an action film than a horror movie. However, it isn’t without its gruesomeness. It features one of the most psychotic serial killers we have seen on screen since everyone’s favourite sadomasochistic killer, Kakihara in Takashi Miike’s Ichi The Killer.
A man travels to Thailand from South Korea to rescue a young girl who was kidnapped for organ trafficking. Hot on his tail is a Japanese serial killer/absolute psychopath triad who wants revenge for the death of a family member.
THE WOMAN
The Woman follows a family that finds a woman in the woods who has obviously been through something traumatic. Instead of helping her, they chain her to the wall in their basement and have their wicked, inhumane way with her. The woman is then pushed to the limits and unleashes the primal beast inside of her to get her revenge.
DOUBLE-BLIND
Double Blind was featured on Moviehooker before and since then, I’ve heard great things. A new Irish horror about an experimental drug. After taking a dodgy pharmaceutical drug, the participants are told “If you fall asleep, you die”.
POUGHKEEPSIE TAPES
Poughkeepsie Tapes is considered one of the found footage greats and this one is quite gnarly. Detectives discover 100s of video tapes in an abandoned warehouse that document a serial killer’s reign of terror.
HOLE IN THE GROUND
Hole In The Ground (I’m almost certain) is Evil Dead Rise director Lee Cronin’s feature-length directorial debut. After noticing a large sinkhole in a nearby forest, a mother starts to think that her son is no longer the child she loves and fears he is being possessed by supernatural forces.
KILL LIST
One of Ben Wheatley’s early flicks. Kill List follows two hitmen as they work their way through a new kill list of targets. With each target, new shocking information is revealed that throws them down a dark rabbit hole of murder and the occult.
EDEN LAKE
James Watkins, the writer/director of Eden Lake recently gave us the English language remake of the Danish shocker Speak No Evil.
Eden Lake follows a couple on a romantic weekend away who get terrorised by a group of young kids resulting in some barbaric torture
GHOST STORIES
Ghost Stories is a British horror anthology about a sceptical professor who travels to chat with a man about the paranormal and view all of the concrete video evidence which gives us our anthology of Ghost Stories. This is a great one for Halloween, folks.
TWO WITCHES
From writer/director Pierre Tsigaridis who recently unleashed his new tale of trauma – Traumatika. Two Witches stars Rebekah Kennedy and Kristina Klebe as two women who are terrorised by an ageing witch.
Just like Tramuatika, Two Witches is a dark and nasty piece of horror aimed at a mature audience. Tsigaridis is a name to be watching on the up-and-coming indie horror scene.
