7 New Genre Films You Need To Know About

As festival season approaches, we must keep you all hooked up with the best new genre films coming your way. It’s a tough aul job but someone has got to do it. Let’s get to it.

Below you will find 7 new genre films that will be hitting this year’s festivals. I can’t confirm that all of these will be awesome but they sure sound it anyway. I hope you enjoy it.

CANNIBAL MUKBANG

Cannibal Mukbank looks to be a seriously icky and gross horror that takes its viewers on a twisted journey that asks “How Far Would You Go In The Name Of Love?”.

Not a lot is known about the plot but it is about love, food and revenge…and, I am guessing, judging by the awesome poster that these themes will be explored in the most grotesque, cannibalistic way possible.

NIGHTBITCH

This one sounds like a wild ride. Amy Adams stars as a woman who realises that she’s slowly turning into a dog. The film is based on a novel of the same name released in 2021 by Rachael Yoder. It is due for release this December.

THE BUNKER

I was just chatting a few days ago about Tobin Bell (Jigsaw) and how that man is the luckiest horror icon to have ever blessed our screens. He pretty much made a career for himself by laying on a floor for 99.9% of Saw. With the most recent Saw X, we saw Tobin Bell getting to express his acting chops way more as the plot was very character-driven.

So, I am happy to report that Tobin Bell is done with his games (for now) and co-stars in The Bunker, a new sci-fi about an alien invasion and the team instructed to build a weapon to destroy the alien threat.

THE SHADE

We have been promised an effective and creepy psychological horror with Tyler Chipman’s directorial debut The Shade.

The film deals with a grieving family who is finding it difficult to come to terms with the untimely loss of their husband/father. One of the sons starts to act very strangely claiming he is seeing a supernatural entity that no one else can see. Is this entity real? or is it the start of a downward spiral and descent into murderous psychotic madness?

ALGEA: GOD OF PAIN

Algea: God Of Pain has got great reviews, I haven’t read a bad word about it. This film is set in 2046 and deals with the God Of Pain. An entity that judges the worst of the worst criminals and sentences them to eternal torture and suffering.

That premise alone is enough to sell me 100 times over. The thought of horrendous pieces of sh*t criminals getting their judgement in the form of enteral torture and suffering – sign me THE HELL up!

6 New Vampire Movies (2024/25)

SUNSET SUPERMAN

Sunset Superman stars Michael Jai White and is directed by Jason Krawczyk. If that name isn’t ringing any bells, he gave us the fantastic Herny Rollins supernatural horror, He Never Died.

Michael Jai White plays a man called JT. He has been instructed to go to his grandmother’s house and help her fix her broken sink.

This sounds like a lot of fun. With such a basic premise, we can almost be guaranteed that Sunset Superman is going to be gloriously violent. Actually, yes I can confirm that – this looks super violent from the images I have checked out.

COLD ROAD

So far, Cold Road looks to have a mixed bag of reviews but it is going on the list anyway. A woman and her dog are targeted and hunted by a man in a truck in hazardous blizzards as the woman tries to make it home to her ailing mother.

The plot does sound like it has been done before but I am always a fan of snowy horror so I will be checking this one out when it comes my way.
