The Platform 2 trailer: Who’s Hungry For More?

The Platform was released on Netflix in 2020 and quickly became one of the most original horror films that the streaming service has on offer.

The first film became a huge hit during the pandemic and it was reported that The Platform was watched in nearly 60 million households. So, with those stats, this looked like a no-brainer for Netflix execs: a sequel must happen.

Now, 4 years later The Platform 2 has an official trailer and a release date for the sequel has been confirmed – October, 4th, 2024.

It was always inevitable that we would get a sequel to The Platform – I mean, greed, crime, desperation and poverty are universal so there is so much more story to tell.

The first film told the story of a prison in a bleak, dystopian future. The prison is separated by cells stacked on top of each other. Every day food is transported through a hole in the cells. The prisoners at the top get all of the luxurious food and can dine like kings. After a certain amount of time, the floor will move down to the next cell letting those prisoners grab what they can before it moves again. By the time it reaches the bottom level, there’s nothing but inedible scraps left for the prisoners to dine on.

Galder Gaztelu-Urrutia returns to direct and co-writes along with Pedro Rivera, David Desola and Egoitz Moreno.

The Platform 2 Official Trailer

As well as Platform 2, Galder Gaztelu-Urrutia also has another movie in the works written by The Platform’s co-writers. It is called Rich Flu and although there isn’t a lot of information on it just yet I can tell you that it is about a strange disease that infects those with any wealth. The most powerful thing on Earth is now man’s deadliest threat as the disease tears through the rich and powerful leaving the less-fortunate the most fortunate people on earth.

More to follow on The Platform 2 and Rich Flu as news is announced.
